MorrisrownSal Posted January 24, 2016 Posted January 24, 2016 No guitar for me. My back, arms, and shoulders are toast. We are safe though! 30 inches plus in Chatham NJ. I want to play guitar, but I just cant. Have y'all dug out?
EuroAussie Posted January 24, 2016 Posted January 24, 2016 Thats some serious snow Sal ! We had a bit here in Prague, but nothing like you guys. Looks real pretty though, bet the kids love it, no school ! Whoo hoo ... !! What about singing practice ?
MorrisrownSal Posted January 24, 2016 Author Posted January 24, 2016 The only thing I can sing now is Ode to Blue Moon, in anticipation of a few cold ones and American Football later today on the tele! I wish my two boy were home to help me... they are away at college. Hangin at home with the misses, whose back is about where mine is about now, and our last daughter at home. I remember when the three kids were small... how much we all loved days like this. Not anymore... Charleston SC here I come.
blindboygrunt Posted January 24, 2016 Posted January 24, 2016 Isnt that the house from father of the bride movie ? Build a snowman sal ! What did one snowman say to the other ? ...... Can you smell carrots ?
Boyd Posted January 24, 2016 Posted January 24, 2016 I'm about 5 miles from Mays Landing in the Southern part of New Jersey. We got of lucky down here, I measured 9 inches (23cm for our metric friends) in the yard yesterday afternoon. We got about 2 or 3 more inches overnight, so the total was a little under a foot (31cm). Have not done any clearing at all - no sore back, Just got a new snowblower this fall to replace my 10 year old P.O.S. But I consider that an "insurance policy" for a serious storm - if we had gotten 30" I would have been out there using it! As long as I can get through it in 4 wheel drive, it stays on the ground. It will melt soon enough. I live back in the woods, my "driveway" is a little sand road about 800 feet long and full of potholes. Have cleared it a few times during bigger storms, and it's a real job. There's quite a variation in snowfall in my area. Driving around this morning I saw homes with amounts ranging between about 4 inches up to 18 inches. At one spot, a house on the right side of the road had about 4 inches and the house across the road had about a foot. I am about 15 miles from the coast, and there's a sharp drop-off in snow as you go East. Hope everyone else is ok!
zombywoof Posted January 24, 2016 Posted January 24, 2016 I am afraid we sent this one east to ya'll. But we did not get near the snow that was predicted (which was not even close to what you got) and only had one dicey day last week when we got hit by a totally unpredicted icing. I had to go pick up my son, a trip which generally takes about ten minutes. Took me a full hour to get to him.

I want to play guitar, but I just cant. Have y'all dug out? [ Nah, but I spent the morning splitting firewood. A chilly 35 degrees F (2 C)here overnight last night. We don't get to use our fireplace that much here in Florida, but we are using it right now. By the way, if anyone ever offers you live oak for firewood, you might want to take a pass. A friend of mine cut down a live oak in his property a few years ago, and after five years of seasoning, it is just now getting to the point where I can split it with a maul. Burns nice, though.
RichG Posted January 24, 2016 Posted January 24, 2016 Two feet here on Long Island. My back is ok but my checkbook took a beating. At 70, I'm not shoveling or even snow blowing that much snow!
MorrisrownSal Posted January 24, 2016 Author Posted January 24, 2016 Rich, just got your picture. You me. Blues bar. Key West. Think of what we shall name it.
duluthdan Posted January 24, 2016 Posted January 24, 2016 Was thinking about you East Coast folks last night while I switched back and forth from CNN to the Weather Channel. Hope that flooding stuff I saw happening diet cause much grief. Here in the Rocky Mountains we are used to that stuff, and prepared for ir. Sal, a couple years ago I bought my wife a snowblower for Christmas. Might consider that idea. Hope you get dug out and back to spending quality time with your six-stringers.
62burst Posted January 24, 2016 Posted January 24, 2016 What's "checking"? No need to let the snow get in the way; time now for a hot beverage, a look out the window at a snowy landscape, and a little pickin'.

Aster1 Posted January 24, 2016 Posted January 24, 2016 This storm totally missed us. We got maybe 1/2" dusting of dry snow. Woo-Hoo, it was sunny today and mid 30's. I needed that as it sounded like a dang rodent "Gala Event" in a wall that those little S.O.B.'s got into thru some small openings they chewed. I used the 00 steel wool & foam in a can on them today. Hope they all got out from the dang party the other night. If not, there will prolly not be any rescue attempts made for the stragglers. Oh ya, my guitars wouldn't see that deck passing thru in their case even!!! Keep safe out East Ya'll!!!! Aster
Cougar Posted January 24, 2016 Posted January 24, 2016 What's "checking"? I hope that was photoshopped.
AnneS Posted January 24, 2016 Posted January 24, 2016 About 12" in my yard (about 15 miles east of Asheville). Along the Blue Ridge Parkway to the northeast of here is Mount Mitchell, the tallest mountain in the eastern US. They say 66" fell there Fri-Sun. Yikes.
RichG Posted January 24, 2016 Posted January 24, 2016 Rich, just got your picture. You me. Blues bar. Key West. Think of what we shall name it. At this point, any name will do.
j45nick Posted January 25, 2016 Posted January 25, 2016 Rich, just got your picture. You me. Blues bar. Key West. Think of what we shall name it. You guys stop by to see me on your way to Key West. It's not that far down the road from me. (Well, it's a few hours of driving, anyway. But not far compared to how far you will have traveled by then.)
AnneS Posted January 25, 2016 Posted January 25, 2016 Charleston SC here I come. It'd be fun to meet up one day- I get to the SC beaches kind of frequently. Kiawah is fine this time of year. :)
flatbaroque Posted January 25, 2016 Posted January 25, 2016 I have no idea what it must be like.Keep safe and warm you lot.
E-minor7 Posted January 25, 2016 Posted January 25, 2016 Took a little dose of white flakes here last week - nothing overwhelming. Brushed up a wooden board during midsummer, but found it too colourful and decided to let it spend a couple of autumns/winters outside to dim it down. Actually like it better with snow. Pots Cans Pan & Paint ~ That pose is pretty wild, 62burst. Guess a workhorse can take it.
62burst Posted January 25, 2016 Posted January 25, 2016 What is snow? Is it this white stuff here? BluesKing777. Snow changes the acoustics of the world around us; 'adds a kind of hush, scares away the loud 'bikes & street racers, changes the familiar world right outside of our door to something we've never seen before, and drives the madding crowd from the coastal outcropping of rocks you were trying to photograph (BK777) ! (though there are getting to be times when the Jam Rendezvous that Anne had suggested starts to sound good... Anyplace that begins with S. Actually like it better with snow. Pots Pan & Paint ~ That pose is pretty wild, 62burst. Guess a workhorse can take it. Nice little collection. Sometimes a little is enough. As far as Snowburst goes... Just spent some time with it- 'sounds more crisp ... & no worse for the chill.
