swampash Posted January 24, 2016 Posted January 24, 2016 An amazing week of "NGDs". 2014 Rickenbacker 330 in Walnut. Lovely satin finish all round. I lusted for one of these two years ago when they came out. Was in a very "Ricky" state of mind after getting my 360/12 back from an overdue setup. Saw this online today and had to have it. Traded a Johnny Marr Jaguar for it at 5:30pm. May have some remorse later but these will not come up often and were a limited run. This thing howls with some overdrive and amazing cleans. Could be a real contender for my main guitar. I had a 360 6 string two years ago and never bonded with it as it has a neck like a HB pencil. This 330 is much better and is like a Fender. Love it!!
Dub-T-123 Posted January 24, 2016 Posted January 24, 2016 Nice!! It's cool to have a Ric 6 and a Ric 12. I have a 660/6 and lust after a 360/12
charlie brown Posted January 24, 2016 Posted January 24, 2016 Beautiful!! Ric's have a (clean) sound all their own! "Round," and "jangly!" CB

Digger Posted January 24, 2016 Posted January 24, 2016 Your title of a "Rick in walnut" got me in and I wasn't disappointed at all.....bloody gorgeous!
Brytam Posted January 25, 2016 Posted January 25, 2016 Stunning!! Love the look! Ric's are amazing guitars! Well made & a sound all their own. I saw they were making a walnut limited run & I like that look! I have a '73 Ric 4001 bass I bought used in '76. Wouldn't play any other bass. Love the feel, the sound & the look. Frets have been replaced twice but it keeps on rockin'! Also a matching '05 Ric 620 solid body I got on EBay years ago. (Will never let these go!) Have my eye on a Ric Fireglo 360 6 string. Maybe some day! Congrats on a unique, beautiful guitar!!...Enjoy!
btoth76 Posted January 25, 2016 Posted January 25, 2016 Walnut - wonderful wood! Congratulations! Enjoy it with good health! Bence
Versatile Posted January 25, 2016 Posted January 25, 2016 Great guitar.... Rics are great and have retained their ethos intact Quality, character, history, no cheap volume models.... Happy Rick-ing... V

pippy Posted January 25, 2016 Posted January 25, 2016 Oh, WOW! That is a very fine looking instrument indeed ! ! ! Many congrats! ...I had a 360 6 string two years ago and never bonded with it as it has a neck like a HB pencil... I've no idea what model it was (all I remember is that it was a solid-body) but the very first Ricky I played had such a neck and I've been (unfairly) reluctant to try them out ever since. It felt horrible to someone used to playing an early '60s Fender neck. Perhaps I really should give some time to checking other examples out.............. Pip.

I know that a lot of people get sucked in by the tone and the looks only to find out that they can't play them because the neck is too narrow. I've got a 1980 360/12 with a very narrow neck that forces you to be very precise in how you play them and I've got large hands. Some players can't come to terms with this and will turn their back on them. I've learned to make allowance for this as I simply have to have a Guitar that looks and sounds like it in my life. That was my choice. This new Rick on the other hand is very different. It actually has a neck very similar to the Johnny Marr Jaguar that I traded for it. Also, it doesn't have the lacquer on the fret board that other Ricks have that causes unintentional string bends even when playing chords. For those who've played Rickenbackers in the past, I'd recommend that they try these before writing them off altogether.
JayinLA Posted January 25, 2016 Posted January 25, 2016 Great Score. Not only is Walnut beautiful, but it's right at that intersection (walnut being slightly more grainy than maple, and mohagany, and more dense than most maple) of getting a wonderful tone wood that looks brilliant. It's soft, but dense, and really beatutiful. I would love to give it a listen.

I believe it has a wider fretboard than all the other Rics. It's not huge at all, it just feels more normal if you're used to Gibson or Fender. The toaster pickups are tasty
Brytam Posted January 25, 2016 Posted January 25, 2016 Is that a Ric fireglo 360 in your avatar pic? ... If so, that is THE guitar I want...!
charlie brown Posted January 25, 2016 Posted January 25, 2016 Yeah, I love Ric's, too! Mine are 34-36 years old, though. (Need to do some better photos, of them. Individually, and together. (This was just a quick "snapshot!") CB
