duluthdan Posted January 25, 2016 Posted January 25, 2016 Red MC - are you talking about the 1930s model Century of Progress with the white fretboard? Here's how to post pics : http://forum.gibson.com/index.php?/topic/11005-sticky-how-to-post-photos/

tpbiii Posted January 25, 2016 Posted January 25, 2016 The Gibson Century was introduced in 1933 as the Century of Progress model because of the Century of Progress World Fair in Chicago. It has the same body shape as the L-00, L-0, L-1 flat tops, but its B&S are maple. The very first few were 12-frets -- as were the Hawaiian model -- but the later ones were 14-fret. Some of the B$S were solid, some not. We have a couple -- a 12 and a 14. Totally cool guitars. They are rare, but not super rare. The 14-frets are more common. Best, -Tom
Redmc13 Posted January 25, 2016 Author Posted January 25, 2016 Thanks Tom very helpful. Does the link work to some pics ? [url=http://s1055.photobucket.com/
Redmc13 Posted January 25, 2016 Author Posted January 25, 2016 Guess we need to insure it properly now. They are very cool guitars. Thanks
j45nick Posted January 25, 2016 Posted January 25, 2016 Hi Yes that's the one. Mother of pearl ? Let me take some pics and post them up shortly. Thanks. That's "mother of toilet seat" (manmade material) rather than mother of pearl.
j45nick Posted January 25, 2016 Posted January 25, 2016 Guess we need to insure it properly now. They are very cool guitars. Thanks Looks to be in really nice shape. I would insure it for $4-$5k. You see more asked for them, but I'm not sure they get it. As Tom says, they are uncommon, but not rare. They were made for several years in the 1930's.

Not sure we would sell it anyway as been passed down the family.
62burst Posted January 25, 2016 Posted January 25, 2016 Very cool, and in very nice condition. Yes, affectionately referred to as Mother of Toilet Seat. Also interesting to see the export stamp (is that a sticker?) on the center strip inside the soundhole- is there also a "Made in the ..." stamped on the back of the headstock?

I thought the same thing (export model), as I haven't seen that sticker on domestic models.
Dave F Posted January 26, 2016 Posted January 26, 2016 I've always liked the LC. It reminds me of the first Kay guitar my Mom got me.
Redmc13 Posted January 26, 2016 Author Posted January 26, 2016 Yes it is a sticker. And yes it has Made in the USA stamped behind the headstock. Does that affect the value of the guitar ? Thanks for views guys.
