Cold Dog Soup - Guy Clark cover on LG-2

Good, good rendition. Clark has a "way with words" and you do this song justice. I agree with others. I find your songs easy-to-listen-to and your guitar technique reminds me of myself (not meant as a criticism...lol..)....BTW, from what I remember from my grandfather, cold dog soup is just a bowl of water. Rainbow pie (I think) is an analogy for not having a lot to eat. Rainbow stew used to be what hobos called a stew made from whatever was edible and had lots of color to it. Rainbow stew also means having a huge selection of colors in food.

It's tough to beat a Guy Clark song that's performed well. Good stuff, FB.

What a cover,I always enjoyed this song. Guy seems to talk the verses, really like yours.

Flat have a listen to a John Prine song Late John Garfield Blues I'd like to hear you sing and play it

Thanks everyone!

Cheers Larry on those very plausible explanations of some of the lyrics.Yea and I understand what you mean about similar playing styles..a bit "loose"..bit of a strum, bit of a pick - all in the one song, as long as it sounds ok.

Phil, yea I know that JP song..full of great imagery.

Now that was really special, man. I'm a big fan of your voice. I think I said this before, kind of reminds me of David Gray.

And surprisingly I did hear about Australia day, just because I was reading an article about Cleveland Cavaliers point guard Matthew Dellavedova, an Aussie, and they kind of had some special festivities during the basketball game.

" Australia day here today - Jan 26.(like our 4th of July I guess.

So throw some snags on the barbie and sink a few cold pigs ears!"

Translation from Fair Dinkum to American English: "throw some dogs on the grill and crack a couple of cold ones."

Sal,my harp playing is strictly suck it and see..not much skill...but sounds ok.

Avery cheers mate.Basketball isn't big over here but I think I've heard of the guy you mentioned - so he must be doing well.

Nick, your linguistic skills are beyond reproach! "pig's ears" would puzzle many Australians...outside my uncouth circle [biggrin] .

I've worked with Australians (for better or worse) for the last 30 years. Spent a lot of time there as well. It's a wonder I still speak English. [biggrin]

Geez, the dogs are getting a pounding - cold dog soup and dogs on the grill...... [biggrin]

I liked it - very Waits-y, but the Hound didn't! He didn't appreciate the finer points of the Clark lyrics, and he never wants to live in the Shire or wherever you dog grillers live.... stayin' here:

I bet the Hound is the terror of that dog beach. He looks like the territorial type to me. He's clearly got an attitude.

Nope, he would rather be there than pretty well anywhere else, especially watching me work on the computer! He may almost skip dinner to go there...nah, not quite. As we pull up in the car, he makes this weird breer..breer...breer...breer..quiet howling sound ("Let me out!!!), and we have to leave the lead on him or he won't come home!

Sorry to derail your thread, FB! Whatcha think of my new boat?

The boat looks pretty good - for a weekend runabout. But now you are going to have to buy some carbon fibre guitars for marine enviroment!..It never ends [biggrin]

Good idea!

We were buying a new guitar every time the previous one got wet, a real nuisance. Hard to get them delivered too....

No cold dog soup here, as we pull over to let the dog meet his little friends at the dog beach.
