964racer
I have a 1990 ES-175DN. This guitar has a natural finish (A little yellowish) with Mahogany back and sides (almost same color wood and on neck). I took the guitar recently to a technician for a setup and he thought the back and sides may be solid rather than laminated. Any ES-175 experts out there that can confirm ? Any chance of a few pictures? As you note 175s have laminated tops and backs. I think though that the sides are solid. The carved version of the 175 is the L4. http://forums.gibson.com/default.aspx?g=posts&t=12824 How did the tech form the view that the back might be solid? 964racer
The sides and back look like they are from the identical piece of wood - same grain and color.
Californiaman
Hey there, Welcome. I have a 1988 ES 175 and yes, according to Gibson, the back and sides are solid mahogany. Mine is right there in my avatar. Black and Gold. I've seen only a couple ES-175DNs and they are so beautiful. How's about some pictures?
