ES-175DN - solid mahogany ?

Recommended Posts

I have a 1990 ES-175DN. This guitar has a natural finish (A little yellowish) with Mahogany back and sides (almost same color wood and on neck).

I took the guitar recently to a technician for a setup and he thought the back and sides may be solid rather than laminated.

Any ES-175 experts out there that can confirm ?

Hi and welcome.

Any chance of a few pictures?

As you note 175s have laminated tops and backs. I think though that the sides are solid.

The carved version of the 175 is the L4.

How did the tech form the view that the back might be solid?

Hey there,

Welcome. I have a 1988 ES 175 and yes, according to Gibson, the back and sides are solid mahogany. Mine is right there in my avatar. Black and Gold.

I've seen only a couple ES-175DNs and they are so beautiful. How's about some pictures?
