Urgent paypal payment clearance advice required

Hi All,

I've just got back in from work and found out that my Charvel has sold on eBay in the early hours for a "buy it now" price of £629. I'd researched postage via UPS via a cheaper intermediary and have quoted £14 plus £15 insurance, so £29 on the listing. Paypal is telling me that the buyer is paying out £658.

I don't usually use paypal or post out expensive items as I do cash on collection but I needed to for this guitar since the market is limited and thus widespread.

eBay/paypal is telling me that my payment won't appear until mid February and that I need to post it as soon as possible to get my payment earlier. It's also directing me to print labels, go through Royal Mail, add tracking numbers etc. I don't need the money urgently but want to make sure that I'm doing it correctly.

I have two questions:

1. Is the payment guaranteed for me if I post it before the payment is cleared (available to me) since I've done the transaction through eBay/paypal

2. Do I have to follow the eBay/paypal dispatch/labelling requirements, or can I post it via my own arrangements (and thus with proper insurance that the customer has paid for too) and simply mark the transaction as "dispatched" on eBay?

Thanks in anticipation for your advice.

1- Yes the funds are handled through pay pal and the trigger to release the payment to them is based on delivery to the buyer, so you are ok to go ahead and post it.

2- No I have done it that way in the past. I do not do a lot of ebaying but have done it in the past and have not "followed" the prescribed shipping.

Yeah, if you are new to Paypal they do that for some reason as some sort of security measure on the first transaction where you are receiving large amounts of money....

And yes you will get the money...

Ive sold a couple of guitars on ebay and other stuff.. As far as I know you can send it how you want and just mark it as dispatched when its gone that's what ive always done anyway.. Ive never printed out a label from them.... I just write it on myself and send it how I want.

Thanks guys.

I've arranged for UPS via Interparcel to collect it tomorrow and the £15 insurance has been added. I'll mark it as dispatched once it's away.

What I usually do is give the buyer the tracking number so they can trace it themselves.. That way everyone knows whats going on...

Yes I've given him that along with a nice message. It's been very well packaged so hopefully he'll be satisfied.

Cheers, Rabs.

There should be an option to record the tracking info on the Paypal web site as well. In shipping status or some such. Plug it in there as well as sending it to the buyer. It's an official record..

Thanks for that. I've taken your advice and added it on.
