charlie brown Posted January 29, 2016 Posted January 29, 2016 Just saw on 2 media sources, that Paul Kantner, of Jefferson Airplane, and (early) Hot Tuna, has passed away, at 74! Man, the original "Classic Rock" musicians, are dropping like flies, recently! R.I.P. Paul! Thanks, for the Great Music, all these years! CB
capmaster Posted January 29, 2016 Posted January 29, 2016 What a string of bad luck. Another living legend has gone forever. R.I.P. Paul. :(
Karloff Posted January 29, 2016 Posted January 29, 2016 i was always a fan. loved the airplane and the J.Starship (most of it). got to see Jefferson Starship several times in the 70's. & the airplane on their reunion tour. was front row center at merriweather post for the reunion. best time was when kantner did a tour with tuna, just acoustic shows. saw them at the chestnut cabaret i think it was, in Philly. one thing about getting old, all the people i admire are leaving... really sucks. RIP Paul.
'Scales Posted January 29, 2016 Posted January 29, 2016 What a string of bad luck. A (white) baby boy born in the US in 1950 could expect to live to 67 years old and, sadly, I'm not sure most RnR lifestyles of the 60's and 70's were conducive to beating the odds. It seems to be coming on home these days. RIP. Jimmy Bain passed away this week too - a good hard rock bassist who played with Ritchie Blackmore and Dio and had a decent band of his own back in th day.
jaxson50 Posted January 29, 2016 Posted January 29, 2016 RIP Paul, thanks for the great music. We are all just wearing out.
SteveFord Posted January 29, 2016 Posted January 29, 2016 Terrible news, the Airplane was great. I remember reading a post-Starship (version one) interview with him and this line stuck in my head: "We Built This City On Rock And Roll - give me a break!" Nice write up on him: http://www.sfgate.com/music/article/Jefferson-Airplane-s-Paul-Kantner-dies-at-74-6791483.php

CB Just saw the same and put a post on another board. So far, 2016 has not been good to rock n roll as a whole.
darling67 Posted January 29, 2016 Posted January 29, 2016 2016 is really sticking it to the Rock 'n' Roll world......
kelly campbell Posted January 29, 2016 Posted January 29, 2016 Too bad this month alone has been devastating to the rock world...R.I.P Paul Thanks
LarryUK Posted January 29, 2016 Posted January 29, 2016 At this rate we'll only have Keith Richards, Justin Bieber and Taylor Swift left by Christmas.
Mr. C.O. Jones Posted January 29, 2016 Posted January 29, 2016 This year sucks big time!!! Always loved Airplane, have some fantastic blurry memories with their music. R.I.P.
zigzag Posted January 29, 2016 Posted January 29, 2016 Surrealistic Pillow was the first album that I owned (sort of... stole it from my sister).
Karloff Posted January 29, 2016 Posted January 29, 2016 Surrealistic Pillow was the first album that I owned (sort of... stole it from my sister). I stole mine as well. lol. ( i was 14, cut me some slack...)
fromnabulax Posted February 1, 2016 Posted February 1, 2016 I don't know if you guys noticed that buried in the news late last week was the report that on the same day Paul Kantner died, original Jefferson Airplane female lead singer Signe Anderson also died. Though nowhere near as well known as Grace Slick, she is the vocalist on the JA's first album, "Takes Off."

Rosemarie Posted February 3, 2016 Posted February 3, 2016 At this rate we'll only have Keith Richards, Justin Bieber and Taylor Swift left by Christmas. I'd be *TOTALLY* ok if Justin Bieber was next. Just sayin'!
