BozeMan Posted January 30, 2016 Posted January 30, 2016 Hi, I purchased a used 2008 Gibson J-45 True Vintage from Guitar Center (online) a few months ago. I love the guitar and everything about it looks kosher except for one thing. I has no orange or white Gibson Label/Sticker inside. It has a Serial number inside the body - printed on the base block of the neck, that matches the serial number on the back of the headstock. So - why no sticker? Did Gibson ever make True Vintage Versions without stickers? Is it perhaps a factory second that never got through Gibson quality assurance - and somehow got out the backdoor of the factory without a sticker? Could the sticker have fallen off? Is it a really good fake? All input and opinions would be highly appreciated
j45nick Posted January 30, 2016 Posted January 30, 2016 Without pictures of the guitar, there is no way for us to answer your questions.
BozeMan Posted January 30, 2016 Author Posted January 30, 2016 Without pictures of the guitar, there is no way for us to answer your questions. Right - that makes sense. Here's some photos. BTW - there is no stamped SN on the back of the headstock. thanks for your help.
slimt Posted January 30, 2016 Posted January 30, 2016 Nothing wrong with this one.. seems to be like the originals with the stamp on the block..

Have you ever seen a Gibson acoustic from the last 10 years without a sticker in the sound hole? I have not, so that's why I was suspect. Thanks again.
duluthdan Posted January 30, 2016 Posted January 30, 2016 It is not at all unusual for someone to steam-off and remove that orange label. Its a bit bright. I've thought of taking mine out once or twice, but then I get distracted and just start strumming.
Isaac Hunt Posted January 30, 2016 Posted January 30, 2016 I have a 2011 Custom shop B25 here with no label in the soundhole. Some of the Custom shop guitars don't seem to have them.
j45nick Posted January 30, 2016 Posted January 30, 2016 How about posting a photo of the complete front of the guitar, so we may be able to figure out what model it is? With a custom shop decal and individual Kluson-style tuners, it may be a special model, rather than just a straight TV.

Dave F Posted January 31, 2016 Posted January 31, 2016 My TV does not have the custom sticker. May be something special
Joe M Posted January 31, 2016 Posted January 31, 2016 My TV does not have the custom sticker. May be something special I agree, my TV doesn't have the custom shop sticker either. And mine does have the serial number on the back of the headstock. In the OP's original post, he says there is a serial number on the back of the headstock, in a later post, he says there is no number on the back of the headstock.

Was the TV designated as the J-45 True Vintage in 2008? As I recall, a guitar with the same specs was built prior to the True Vintage designation. This morphed into the J-45 True Vintage, I believe.
MissouriPicker Posted January 31, 2016 Posted January 31, 2016 Great-looking guitar, Bozeman. Hope to see more of you on the forum.

Mine does not have a number on the back of the headstock. Inked number on neck block and an orange label. Gibson did not put labels in all their guitars. My J45 Legend and 1932 L00 did not come with labels.
Willie King Posted February 1, 2016 Posted February 1, 2016 I just got an L-00 from a dealer with no sticker inside it either. I got it Friday and realized today that it does not have one. But it is a Gibson. The models on line do not have that sticker inside them either judging from the pictures on the Gibson site.
Jjunk Posted February 1, 2016 Posted February 1, 2016 Some Gibson models are indeed shipped out with no label inside. I have a 2013 "1950's J-45 Tri-Burst"... I had always assumed that the previous owner steamed off the label until a Gibson rep told me otherwise. They have the serial inked on the neck block only.
