guitar dog Posted February 2, 2016 Posted February 2, 2016 My wife surprised me with a Fireglo 2001 Rickenbacker 330 for our anniversary. After 45 years, I guess she knows me pretty well. I have always wanted a Ric.
btoth76 Posted February 2, 2016 Posted February 2, 2016 Congratulations! On the guitar too! ;) Cheers... Bence
rct Posted February 2, 2016 Posted February 2, 2016 Nice! Just passed 35 years ourselves, holy crap bro! rct
capmaster Posted February 2, 2016 Posted February 2, 2016 Congrats on your wife and your Rickenbacker 330! That Fireglo finish looks awesome and nicely matches the environment where you pictured your Ric.
JayinLA Posted February 2, 2016 Posted February 2, 2016 You are a lucky man. My girlfriend is appauled that I have so much musical equipment that I should be selling it, or donating or whatever. The last thing she would do is spring for a new axe. She resents the whole thing. When I disappear into my studio, I might not be seen for 3 days, and when I play gigs, she is convinced I have groupies. (I only wish).
'Scales Posted February 2, 2016 Posted February 2, 2016 nice one GD. I am half way to getting one based on your timeline - now, there's some motivation!
skilsaw Posted February 2, 2016 Posted February 2, 2016 I'm divorced and have to buy my own guitars. Life is tough and then you die. You're a lucky man. And she bought you a nice guitar too.
pippy Posted February 2, 2016 Posted February 2, 2016 As the saying goes; "That One's a Keeper!" And that goes for the guitar as well. Happy Anniversary to you both and may there be many, many more! Pip.
SteveFord Posted February 2, 2016 Posted February 2, 2016 What a great surprise! How do you like the guitar?
guitar dog Posted February 3, 2016 Author Posted February 3, 2016 Thanks. It's a great guitar, very smooth neck and low action. The finish is in very good condition, a few small scratches that add character. The pickups had a little corrosion it came right off. Tone and volume pots work good and the fifth control knob adds a lot of possibilities. The pick guard screws have rusted heads, but I have ordered replacements for less than $1 each. I have even found keys for the original hard case on eBay. She got a great deal on the guitar with no input from me, very successful surprise.
surfpup Posted February 3, 2016 Posted February 3, 2016 ...My girlfriend is appauled that I have so much musical equipment that I should be selling it, or donating or whatever. The last thing she would do is spring for a new axe...She resents the whole thing. Probably don't wanna marry that one - just sayin!
Drog Posted February 3, 2016 Posted February 3, 2016 Happy anniversary and NGD! The "Ric" looks great, your wife did awesome.
Dub-T-123 Posted February 3, 2016 Posted February 3, 2016 Nice guitar, and sounds like a nice wife too! I didn't realize these have 24 frets. Super cool guitar
SteveFord Posted February 3, 2016 Posted February 3, 2016 Probably don't wanna marry that one - just sayin! Ignore surfpup's advice at your peril...
swampash Posted February 3, 2016 Posted February 3, 2016 Beautiful Guitar. :) I own two Ricks and wouldn't let them go for the world.
badbluesplayer Posted February 3, 2016 Posted February 3, 2016 Congats on 45 years! And nice guitar!! Send it over for verification! [thumbup]
Karloff Posted February 3, 2016 Posted February 3, 2016 That's beautiful. She's a keeper. (The guitar too).
rocketman Posted February 3, 2016 Posted February 3, 2016 Downright beautiful! So what's she going to get you for your 50th?
JayinLA Posted February 3, 2016 Posted February 3, 2016 Probably don't wanna marry that one - just sayin! Trust me brother...This dude isn't getting married anytime soon. I already have some X-wives who conspire to screw and hammer every last drop of blood from me. Not to mention being single is great too. I got diagnosed with a ruined heart and have had bunch of surgury and stuff. Mostly because of my habits and lifestyle for a long time. My GF sees the music biz as the root of it, and in her way, I think she's trying to keep me alive....But if she bought me a new Ric, I would probably put the toilet down more.
