BluesKing777 Posted February 3, 2016 Posted February 3, 2016 Depends how many lots of $200K you have in your kitbag, I guess. Nothing compared to precious violins in a show on the teev the other night - $7 Mill plus for the Stradi and another owned by Princess Di with no price as yet..... But apart from the Brazilian Rosewood, the guitar probably sounds similar to my D28. BluesKing777.
Mickthemiller Posted February 3, 2016 Posted February 3, 2016 I'll take five please and keep the change
Fullmental Alpinist Posted February 3, 2016 Posted February 3, 2016 I'll pass. To similar to my other three guitars.
SmokeyGhost Posted February 3, 2016 Posted February 3, 2016 It may or may not be a wonderful instrument but I have no intention of finding out as: a} I wouldn't spend that amount of money, even if I had it, on a guitar; and b} I consider all the "logos" over it really gross.
j45nick Posted February 3, 2016 Posted February 3, 2016 If I had that kind of money to spend on guitars.....this is not what I would buy.
MissouriPicker Posted February 3, 2016 Posted February 3, 2016 You have to zoom in on the pick guard to see what it actually is depicting. Otherwise, it looks very cartoonish. Naturally, the cost is ridiculous, but even at a decent price I wouldn't be interested.
BluesKing777 Posted February 3, 2016 Posted February 3, 2016 I'll pass. To similar to my other three guitars. That's funny, FMA! BluesKing777.
58 Relic Posted February 4, 2016 Posted February 4, 2016 As a piece of art yes , but as a guitar no . Just my view but then I just like guitars to be , just guitars
jedzep Posted February 4, 2016 Posted February 4, 2016 I'd say gaudy at best. I just bought a beat up 53 year old 000-18. Wouldn't trade it. Now THIS is a piece of art...

mountainpicker Posted February 5, 2016 Posted February 5, 2016 I much prefer the look of that J-45. That other "thing" is kinda oogly.
stein Posted February 7, 2016 Posted February 7, 2016 It's funny. Some of these Martins (there AREN'T that many) actually DO sell at these prices. At least, the ones listed at such prices have sold. No telling what was really paid. I say "funny" because Martin seems to be the only one that seems to be able to sell "new" guitars for such really, REALLY high prices. You have to admit, the inlays and purfling are beyond perfect. I don't know how Martin could ever be sure of EXACTLY how many guitars they made down to "1", but the serial# on that IS somewhat of a badge.
mountainpicker Posted February 8, 2016 Posted February 8, 2016 I gotta admit though that the beauty of the modern guitar market is that if you want to have a collection of $400 guitars there are quite a few to shop for and you can discern within those parameters and have a lot of fun. And if you want to graze in the $4000-$6000 range you too have a lot to shop for and can probably (it's not in my range that's for sure)have a lot of fun too. Et cetera. I like the OP's heading cause it says it all for me about this Martin.
Jim Wilson Posted February 8, 2016 Posted February 8, 2016 Decorations on a guitar is an interesting topic. If someone gave me that guitar, I would quickly turn it for a few working guitars and a lot of cash. It just doesn't excite me at all. However, the decorations on Ramblin' Jack Elliott's old D28 look pretty cool to me. I guess it's just all in the eyes of the beholder.
Murph Posted February 8, 2016 Posted February 8, 2016 Now that's my idea of a rode-hard J-45. There's a few stories on that guitar! Indeed.....
