SteveT2 Posted February 5, 2016 Posted February 5, 2016 Not playing for me. I thought they weren't active anymore. Their guitar player seems to be busy but I haven't heard anything about Ian in forever
'Scales Posted February 5, 2016 Posted February 5, 2016 I loved Electric and Sonic Temple as a kid. They toured through here a while ago doing Electric in full plus other selected songs - Ian's voice is going somewhat but a good loud show. Billy rocks. This seems more layered than the 'glory days' - gotta do what ya gottta do I guess at the age they are, but I liked it raw!
saturn Posted February 5, 2016 Posted February 5, 2016 I thought Ian did a good job on some songs with The Doors back in the late 90s. Haven't heard from him since then until now.

EVOL! Posted February 5, 2016 Posted February 5, 2016 Meh. I haven't been a fan since they have switched their sound to modern hard rock. Love, Sonic Temple, and the s/t will always be favorites in my record collection; just not digging the songs or the new sound.
stein Posted February 5, 2016 Posted February 5, 2016 I used to be a huge fan, but they lost me after Sonic Temple. That stuff got really different. I am a bit confused here. I didn't think Ian's singing style was all that subject to age. He didn't really stretch to high notes, and he didn't gruff out his vocal chords that often. I don't sing, so I don't really know. If it IS the case he can't sing as he once did, listening to these, he sure did a good job of reinventing himself. It barely sounds like the same guy, but he sounds good in these 2 tunes...obviously, if you aren't expecting what he was singing like before. Their stuff with the really "dark" lyrics I can't get into either...that was another place they lost me. Might lose me on this one too. Ironic, being as they were pretty dark in the beginning (they used to be called "Death Cult", and "Southern Death Cult" before they hit it big). I'm pretty sure they were aware of that when they did the "Love" album.

Yeah I saw him perform with The Doors. I thought he did really well, was a great gig. Never been the biggest Cult fan but they do have some classic tunes.. I just thought it was interesting they are still going.
stein Posted February 5, 2016 Posted February 5, 2016 Love was good, but had a doom and gloom thing going on. Electric was more raw and rocking. Sonic was okay. Then I lost interest. Lol...yea, but compared to what they WERE doing, it was like "OK...lets try and at least act happy". That trio of records was really the only stuff that was of interest. I think it's kinda cool you and I agree on something.
