I'm a novice considering buying one of the following::

DOT

Casino Coupe

ES339 Pro

ES339 P90 Pro

My tastes are mainly 60's & 70's rock and pop.

Any hints and advice greatly appreciated.

I would probably go with the Dot. The others are all reduced size, which I find can be uncomfortable at first. The thing to do is go to a shop and pick each one of them up and see what feels best for you.

Agreed. I love my Dot, but you need to play them all.

All a very nice guitars. I own both an Epiphone Dot and Epiphone ES339 P90 Pro, which I bought after trying out the ES339 Pro for comparison.

The construction of them in my opinion is top notch and the only flaw in the ES339 P90 Pro, albeit minor and was rectified before purchase, was a slight fret buzz at G on the Low E. Other than that, no problems. A great, fun unit I think.

Nice thing about most guitars manufactured today is that inexpensive does not necessarily mean cheap (as in rubbish.)

I can't believe no one told him to buy them all...... [confused]

This group is slipping!

Seriously go try them out then decide, or buy them all..... [flapper]

I know, right???

Tough to make the call, you really need to find a few to try out and see which one you like the sound and feel the most.

339 pro p90 would be a nice choice if you like the raw edge that those pickups deliver.

the casino coupes are cool a true hollow body, not a semi-hollow, this will give them a bit of a unique tone.

I concur...you need to go play all of the one's you're interested in,

and, maybe a few, you hadn't considered, previously. You may be surpised

at which one(s) suit your fancy, budget, and playing style, the best!

Keep an open mind! [thumbup][biggrin]

And from my perspective the OP is lucky to have such a choice compared with what is readily available (and reasonably priced) in Australia.

The Dot is a big guitar. That's the one you want. In fact, instead of the Dot, get the ES-335 Pro for the same price. It's got nicer fret markers and a bound fretboard. And I like the name better. The ebony looks tough. Or you can get the sunburst. Hurry up and get it and post some pictures, I'm drooling here. =P~

By all means sit down with a number of them that look good to you. Years ago I had the money to buy a nice guitar, my first nice guitar. I had drooled over a Joe Pass sat down and as beautiful as it was I wasn't comfortable playing it, do you have a Sheraton II? Yes but it's used, gave it a try and I've had that guitar for over 20 years. Don't feel you have to buy new, find something that interests you sit down and play it you might be surprised. Dennis

…how about test driving an SG styled guitar, like the Epiphone Worn G-400 or the G-400 Pro, while you’re at it?

They're inexpensive, comfortable to play, well made, and would be perfectly suited for 60’s/70’s rock and pop styles.

Sometimes it’s worth your time to look outside of your initial ideas. I had been a die hard Fender amp user for years. When I was thinking of another amp, I was, once again looking at Fenders. Then, still not sure why, I decided to check out Vox amps. It was never on my list of amps I imagined getting next, but it proved to be a real gift. Now I can’t imagine why I never got one to begin with, she’s proved to be a real incredible amp (Vox AC15 C2). I even ended up getting a second Vox some months later (Vox Night Train NT15).

So, the moral of my story is: Check out a few guitars you may not have initially considered. It couldn’t hurt. Besides, Epiphone has a real good variety of styles to choose from.

Yup, need to try them out, and don't rule out a solid body like a SG or LP. I really liked the wild cat, until I sat down and played it. Then I liked Gretch 51 xx, (can't afford 61 xx)eye candy for sure... until I sat down and played them.... I finally got a chance to play a Swingster... that was it.... I like the feel of the neck, I'm not big on a lot of Gibson, it really depends on the neck. a lot of them have wider necks... that's just me. The swingster is basically a Joe pass emperor II, hopped up a bit. So that's my baby now... Big Red...
