JayinLA Posted February 8, 2016 Posted February 8, 2016 Feel Free to add to the field, comment, rant, whatever. If you're in Europe or Australia, your choice is worth double points, because it was the British that discovered the great American guitarists in the first place.
Searcy Posted February 8, 2016 Posted February 8, 2016 I don't know what "American Style Guitar" is but the answer is Michael Schenker.
Rabs Posted February 8, 2016 Posted February 8, 2016 I don't know what "American Style Guitar" is but the answer is Michael Schenker. Yeah I wasn't sure about that... Heres what the web says https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Americana_music Americana is an amalgam of American folk music formed by the confluence of the shared and varied traditions that make up the musical ethos of the United States; specifically those sounds that are merged from folk, country, blues, rhythm and blues, rock and roll and other external influences.[1] Americana, as defined by the Americana Music Association (AMA), is "contemporary music that incorporates elements of various American roots music styles, including country, roots-rock, folk, bluegrass, R&B and blues, resulting in a distinctive roots-oriented sound that lives in a world apart from the pure forms of the genres upon which it may draw. While acoustic instruments are often present and vital, Americana also often uses a full electric band.. And then theres a list of what it considers Americana which I wont bother copying.. But Ry Cooder is on there, hed get my vote :) EDIT:(ok both him and Neil Young arnt exactly on the scene, but I didn't see that bit till just now Still both great though :))
kidblast Posted February 8, 2016 Posted February 8, 2016 I don't know what "American Style Guitar" is but the answer is Michael Schenker. ha! hardly based on what the name implies, but I like the way you think!
cody78 Posted February 8, 2016 Posted February 8, 2016 I always thought Americana was 'dust bowl' type music? I imagine many of you guys may not have heard of them but the Tucson Arizona band Calexico spring to mind when somebody says Americana...

rct Posted February 8, 2016 Posted February 8, 2016 I dearly love the old fruit, but he is neither Americana or on the scene anymore. He did, however, invent an entire genre of music which was introduced with a little ditty called Revival. Once you heard that there was no going back! rct

merciful-evans Posted February 8, 2016 Posted February 8, 2016 I would have to say Jimmy Herring. Wici on Jimmy I agree Ry should be in the running though. BTW I wish I knew what Rabs vids were, but I cant see them!
Rabs Posted February 8, 2016 Posted February 8, 2016 BTW I wish I knew what Rabs vids were, but I cant see them! Odd... you should be able too? But its Neil Young, Old Man and Rockin in the Free World.
cody78 Posted February 8, 2016 Posted February 8, 2016 Odd... you should be able too? But its Neil Young, Old Man and Rockin in the Free World. I'm probably the biggest Neil Young fan I know lol. Been listening to this constantly the past few days. Amazing version of Southern Pacific (originally from Re-Ac-Tor) solo with banjo. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d4KZlxmbX98
badbluesplayer Posted February 9, 2016 Posted February 9, 2016 Americana is a good name for something. Car name, airline name, medication name. It's got an "a" at the beginning and the end of the word. And that's a winner. If they called it The Americana News Network instead of The Al Gazeera News Network they would have survived. So I vote for Americana.
RowdyMoon Posted February 9, 2016 Posted February 9, 2016 Neil Young is Canadian so I don't think The Donald would allow it to count....
Kenny V Posted February 9, 2016 Posted February 9, 2016 Not an American, but a tremendous Jazz guitarist from England, Martin Taylor gets my vote.
kelly campbell Posted February 9, 2016 Posted February 9, 2016 Not an American, but a tremendous Jazz guitarist from England, Martin Taylor gets my vote. I like Martin taylor, and a super nice man.
Searcy Posted February 10, 2016 Posted February 10, 2016 I'm going to have to go with Michael Schenker. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zaavBKjtJmE
'Scales Posted February 10, 2016 Posted February 10, 2016 As an outsider, both of these I think are great examples of 'couldn't be anywhere else but the good ol' US of A' style rocking...with sweet guitar work from the guys!
Rabs Posted February 10, 2016 Posted February 10, 2016 And for more a more modern band/player I think these guys are pretty Americana
badbluesplayer Posted February 11, 2016 Posted February 11, 2016 This is Amer-O-Rama - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tXyuH1yx5g8
