daveinspain Posted February 12, 2016 Posted February 12, 2016 Give a listen to the solo that starts at 2:10. Second solo at 4:20. To me the style is unmistakeable. Don't google it. If you know don't tell. If you want to take a guess lets hear it…
btoth76 Posted February 12, 2016 Posted February 12, 2016 Hello Dave! It's the former player from Whitesnake, who also played with Zappa? Bence

Drog Posted February 12, 2016 Posted February 12, 2016 Very few guys use a whammy that much. My first thought was Vai, but I don't hear his trade mark up pulls. Listening a few more times it reminds me of Beck?

surfpup Posted February 13, 2016 Posted February 13, 2016 Very few guys use a whammy that much. My first thought was Vai, but I don't hear his trade mark up pulls. Listening a few more times it reminds me of Beck? My first thought was Vai as well - but didn't quite seem slippery enough. I did not guess Beck, however. The tone seems a little harsh for him - but there ya go. Sidenote - I used to listen to that Moodswings album all the time at work. Great background music. Never really noticed the guitars though.
Searcy Posted February 13, 2016 Posted February 13, 2016 I'm guessing without looking anything up or reading the answers here. Jeff Beck is my first guess. Could also be old style Joe Satriani but I'm leaning way more toward Beck.
badbluesplayer Posted February 13, 2016 Posted February 13, 2016 I actually guessed Jeff Beck before I started listening to it or thinking about it. I can't say that it's him for sure though and I didn't listen to the second solo.
capmaster Posted February 13, 2016 Posted February 13, 2016 My guess has been Jeff Beck, too. It is clearly fingerpicking, and I don't know any fingerpicker incorporating these styles of vibrato, phrasing and tapping. So my ignorance has been of help!

Never really noticed the guitars though. I used to listen to that album several times a day for years… Every cut is great. All top notch players and singers. Must have bee a one off project… Wish they had done more...
merciful-evans Posted February 13, 2016 Posted February 13, 2016 I didnt get it. I thought I knew Beck's playing too.
windhoek Posted February 14, 2016 Posted February 14, 2016 I hear David Gilmour - although it does get a bit lively compared to his typical solos.
sparquelito Posted February 14, 2016 Posted February 14, 2016 I almost guessed Adrian Belew, but the more I listened, I knew it was Jeff Beck. His whammy bar work is unmistakable. :)
