The Hierophant Posted February 16, 2016 Posted February 16, 2016 Hi guys, For years I have had a jones for an Explorer and one has come up that is right in my price range. However, it's different from the more recognisable '76 reissues (etc), so checking the pix for authenticity is a little harder for me and I'm hoping that you experienced Gibsonites will be able to give me the thumbs up ("It's a Gibbo!") or the thumbs down ("It's a piece of Chinese plywood cr*p!"). It's one of these: http://archive.gibson.com/en-us/divisions/gibson%20usa/guitar%20of%20the%20week/explorer%20new%20century-week36/ The pictures certainly appear authentic and the pickguard would seem difficult to fake; that's even before you consider the relative obscurity of the model. So, here are the pix. Any help that you can offer would be much appreciated. Thanks. :)
capmaster Posted February 16, 2016 Posted February 16, 2016 Looks like the real deal to me. No red flags visible from the pics.
The Hierophant Posted February 17, 2016 Author Posted February 17, 2016 Looks like the real deal to me. No red flags visible from the pics. Thanks Capmaster. That's what I thought too and now... I have it! It's absolutely legit and incredibly lovely. Haven't been able to give it a full volume workout yet, due to arriving home at a late hour, but even at low volume, this thing roars. Well worth two decades of waiting, especially at the low price that I paid.
Rick Posted March 30, 2016 Posted March 30, 2016 Legit for sure, it has been my first Electric guitar (and my first Gibson, too), bought from an authorized dealer here in Italy..

Hell of a first guitar, Rick. Congratulations! And yes, it's legit and lovely. Incredible sound and playability, plus it hangs beautifully.
