charlie brown Posted February 16, 2016 Posted February 16, 2016 Anyone here know, if Gibson has gone back to MSRP price listing, on their website, as opposed to "Average Selling Price," they were using, in the last couple of years? Just curious, after I saw what "Lucille" is priced at, these days! CB
capmaster Posted February 17, 2016 Posted February 17, 2016 From here it doesn't seem so. The prices are that steep indeed. I wonder if it's due to exchange rate only, or also because The Gibson Family of Brands dropped their biggest-selling dealer in Europe, Thomann.

Either way, that's too bad! CB
capmaster Posted February 17, 2016 Posted February 17, 2016 ... Just curious, after I saw what "Lucille" is priced at, these days! CB The street price of my Alex Lifeson Les Paul Axcess went up about 50% during exactly three years. 18% are exchange rate, the rest is calculation so to say.
capmaster Posted February 17, 2016 Posted February 17, 2016 Gibson dropped Thomann, or Thomann dropped Gibson??? Either way, that's too bad! CB My information is that the contract expired as of March 2015. They seem to have disagreed over the 2015 Gibson USA model line.

LOL...what dealer didn't?! Well, I hope they can come to some future agreement, and reinstate Gibson, once again, for all our European brothers! Has to be a real loss, for both parties! CB

CB Not only that I bought most of my Gibsons there, the most expensive ones were also among them. Dealers having them in stock were hard to locate. There are fine Gibson dealers in Germany, but none had so many options. Furthermore, other large retailers are beyond a one-day trip for me. Besides the hours at the wheel I need some hours to spend there!
charlie brown Posted February 17, 2016 Author Posted February 17, 2016 $7000 minus 1 dollar for a BB King Signature. Pass me what you are puffing Gibson. Love mine and I paid about 1/3 of that ridiculous price. I hear that! I paid $1,600 and change, for mine..brand new!! In fact, at that time, "Lucille" was priced (at my dealer, anyway) less than a ES-335! So GLAD, I got it, when I did!! CB
surfpup Posted February 17, 2016 Posted February 17, 2016 Maybe they should change to listing the vital organs you will have to sell to afford the guitar?
SteveFord Posted February 17, 2016 Posted February 17, 2016 Luckily, used Lucille's with ebony fret boards are still affordable. I wondered if Mr. King's passing would cause a spike in the price of the guitars. I wonder no longer.
stein Posted February 17, 2016 Posted February 17, 2016 At the end of the day, they will sell for what they can sell for. It DOES get confusing though. Trying to figure out how much the "new stuff" will show up for in stores, how much they will be, etc. Might add, EVERYTHING is getting more expensive, not just guitars. EVERYTHING. Well, OK, gas is cheaper right now.
'Scales Posted February 17, 2016 Posted February 17, 2016 Well, OK, gas is cheaper right now. ..but not GAS! (apparently)

kelly campbell Posted February 17, 2016 Posted February 17, 2016 I agree it seems everything has gotten way too expensive.
Digger Posted February 17, 2016 Posted February 17, 2016 And then you can double the prices here after a separate distribution network os pasted on the top! If you live in Oz it's a case of bend over and grab your ankles.....here it comes~

If you live in Oz it's a case of bend over and grab your ankles.....here it comes~ yeah, the exchange rate's not great right now, though it was great a few years ago - we were paying about the same as the US for guitars then I think. To be fair we must be among the best paid people anywhere, unfortunately if you are paying off a home or renting its a very expensive business.
