gfa Posted February 17, 2016 Posted February 17, 2016 I recently bought my first Gibson, a 2016 J-45 Vintage. I'm loving it. Tone is dry & woody, but with some sparkle. Good balance, i.e., solid but not overpowering bass. Fit & finish seems good, although I may have the nut slots brought down just a bit. I think they nailed the vintage sound they were going for. It's a simple but beautiful guitar, with a dark burst. I spent the day playing a variety of Gibsons: SJ 12 fret special, H'bird, SW Deluxe, J-45 TV, and J-45 Standard. This is the one that spoke to me most, with the J-45 TV a close runner-up. Excellent shopping experience at Tall Toad Music in Petaluma. Lousy pictures of a beautiful guitar.
Jalex Posted February 17, 2016 Posted February 17, 2016 That's a beauty, I would love to try one of these. Enjoy
EuroAussie Posted February 17, 2016 Posted February 17, 2016 Looks so tasty The terrified top looks fabulous, like a vintage roadwarrior. Enjoy.
Hall Posted February 17, 2016 Posted February 17, 2016 gfa - Nice guitar. I got one myself when they first ran and posted on it here. I am still happy with it today. Hope you have the same good fortune. The Vintage does have its own sound for certain. Enjoy, it sure looks good. Edit : I like the 80/20 strings on mine over p. bronze. - steve

Just looked up your NGD post and we had the same experience; I went to the shop to look at a different model, played a whole bunch of guitars, and chose this one.
duluthdan Posted February 18, 2016 Posted February 18, 2016 Said it before, and I'll say it again - this guitar captures it all for me, and I hope to hunt one down this summer. Congrats - its a beauty !
fp Posted February 18, 2016 Posted February 18, 2016 Congrats on the nice guitar ! It looks to me that Gibson has changed the shape and size of their neck heel ? I noticed this on another new Gibson as well.
E-minor7 Posted February 18, 2016 Posted February 18, 2016 Congratulations - bet the guitar is fabulous. You should allow us to hear it. Looks good too - (so does the strap). And yes, as fp say, has the heel changed shape for the rounder. .

BluesKing777 Posted February 19, 2016 Posted February 19, 2016 Nice video from Muso's Friend - sounds great: Charging like 2 wounded bulls for one of these here, so back to my J45 Standard....great guitar of MINE. Love to hear one of the new ones in a shop, maybe soon. BluesKing777.
fortyearspickn Posted February 19, 2016 Posted February 19, 2016 agfa Congrats! You done good for your FIRST Gibson. So many choices, so little money - you can never go wrong with a J45! G'Luck!
j45nick Posted February 19, 2016 Posted February 19, 2016 And yes, as fp say, has the heel changed shape for the rounder. . Certainly is a different shape heel from a traditional J-45, but I don't have a modern one to compare it to.
magictwanger Posted February 19, 2016 Posted February 19, 2016 I played one about three months ago.It was beyond fabulous.I compared it to a new(and quite good) standard J-45....No contest!
