Tito_urias Posted February 18, 2016 Posted February 18, 2016 hello.I need help on a J-200 I just bought. The serial number is A053037. It seems to be made in Kalamazoo, Michigan. So I would be really glad if your could tell me some info about the guitar, I mean, if it is not fake, what year is it from and what could be the price of it. Thanks.
BigKahune Posted February 18, 2016 Posted February 18, 2016 . Welcome. Can't address authenticity without pics. Same for worth. With the letter prefix and six digits it's most likely a 1974 or 1975 - a 1970s Norlin product. Usually heavily built as warranty concerns were leading the way in that era. Sorry to say that acoustics from this era are generally considered sub-par, but there are some gems to be found. .
Pittgibson45 Posted February 19, 2016 Posted February 19, 2016 I was sure by the title this thread was going to be a Beatles cover when I opened it. "When I was younger, so much younger than today......"
OldCowboy Posted February 20, 2016 Posted February 20, 2016 I was sure by the title this thread was going to be a Beatles cover when I opened it. "When I was younger, so much younger than today......" I had the same notion. Does that make us imaginative or literal?
j45nick Posted February 20, 2016 Posted February 20, 2016 Serial number probably says 1973. Need pictures to give any sense of value, but it is a Norlin-era guitar, so potential value is compromised compared to earlier versions.
Pittgibson45 Posted February 20, 2016 Posted February 20, 2016 I had the same notion. Does that make us imaginative or literal? I'm not sure, maybe just Beatles fans! I'm a big fan of both the Beatles and J 200's, so you read into something that wasn't even there. I do hope the original poster's guitar is real, but seems funny that you would purchase a guitar when you don't know what it is worth. It is worth to you what you just paid for it, unless you are trying to flip it quick for max prophet, then the worth is what you can get someone to pay for it.

I'm no biblical scholar, but I don't think there was a prophet named Max. ; ). And now that you mention it, I think I'd rather like to hear Help on a J-200.

I suspect that the Gibson is real simply be because if you're gonna do a fake, why go for a less-well-regarded production era? If I'd purchased it without having at least a ballpark idea of value, the motivation would have been cosmic bonding: it's my soul mate and, to me, it's priceless.

I must have been thinking of when the money changers tables were turned over by a prophet. Maybe the same type of thing is going on in this holy place. Help! I need somebody......
