GibsonTCollings Posted February 21, 2016 Posted February 21, 2016 So guys - I bought my Gibson Limited Edition Nick Lucas Koa Elite Supreme (what a name!) because it sounded good on the videos I watched but if I'm to be honest it had everything on one guitar that I'd always wanted!! Koa back and sides, fretboard inlay, abalone edges, sunburst, ivoroid edges (coupled with that abalone), and a tiger stripe pick guard. Gorgeousness. Opulent, gaudy, gorgeousness... and there are only fifty in the world!! But to tell you the truth when I got it I was ready to vomit - the b string was so bad that I couldn't play it. I know that string is a bear anyway, but I'm talking thirty cents off!! I assumed the worst - this wasn't fixable or if it was it was cost prohibitive and I would have to send it back. But I just got back from my tech's shop yesterday and in under an hour he fixed everything!! He had to compensate the bone saddle as it wasn't compensated at all and also file some of the nut slots deeper. He actually radiused the saddle. He asked me which strings I wanted the guitar set for and customized it to those (Thomastik-Infeld Vienna AC111). Now I have perfect intonation and haven't put my guitar down in two days and I have all of tomorrow before it's back to work! WOOT!! I'm so in love. I'm hoping it reveals its name to me soon. :)
Red 333 Posted February 21, 2016 Posted February 21, 2016 Drool-worthy. Glad you got it all sorted out. Enjoy!
AnneS Posted February 21, 2016 Posted February 21, 2016 That's a beaut! When do we get to hear it, hmmm...?
GibsonTCollings Posted February 21, 2016 Author Posted February 21, 2016 That's a beaut! When do we get to hear it, hmmm...? When I get the guts up to share after having figured out how to record on my iPad, LOL. If I had some good software I understood I could just record with my Zoom H thingy...
duluthdan Posted February 21, 2016 Posted February 21, 2016 That's a classy guitar. Glad the B string problem was fixed by something as simple as compensating the saddle.
SmokeyGhost Posted February 21, 2016 Posted February 21, 2016 A lovely guitar and I am sure you will enjoy it. I bought a MIRC Epiphone Dot online from a GC close to Birmingham (Trussville.) Great people to deal with and the guitar is splendid.
Fullmental Alpinist Posted February 21, 2016 Posted February 21, 2016 That is an absolutely gorgeous guitar. I wish you happiness. Welcome to the forum!
kelly campbell Posted February 21, 2016 Posted February 21, 2016 Wow Hard not to fall in love with that one...Congratulations and have fun
58 Relic Posted February 21, 2016 Posted February 21, 2016 Couldn't put that one down , stunning Good Luck
capmaster Posted February 21, 2016 Posted February 21, 2016 Congrats on your pretty Gibson Limited Edition Nick Lucas Koa Elite Supreme, HNGD! As far as officially & hopelessly in love is concerned, I never ever had the luck this was about a guitar. It always was and still is about women only. This, however, makes me writing songs, singing and playing guitar, so there has to be a certain context.
