Pete Townshend on a Gibson

Every time I see and hear an Everly brothers model I always think that if the two pickguards really did kill the volume and tone that guys like Pete Townsend would either have taken them off or just not be playing that model...from a long time ago.

Don't rule out the "don't care" possibility, and as an added bonus, having a bit of fun with the members of the "it's all about the tone" contingent.

There is also some sort of discernible change in the sound on archtops with elevated guards, with their easily mounted/unmounted hardware making a/b's fairly straightforward. And then there's always the "place hand on/off still-reverberating guitar top" test, which usually yields a clue.

I've found the tone/projection/sound of my guitars is adversely affected by the side and proportion of the players belly as it muffles the back of the guitar.

BTW - - if you have an extra hour and a half - also on youtube - Peter Townsends Deep End Concert 1985. It will blow you away: the guy has more talent in his little finger than I can ever dream of having.
