Anyone know of ANY Gibson//Epiphone models of any guitars with ebony fretboards that won't put a dent in my wallet? I was looking at the Matt Heafy model but I'm not sure. Jumbo frets are preferred as well. An links, years with model names are appreciated as well. Thanks :)

Which country are you in?

Out of interest, whats the reason you specifically want an Ebony board? If its the looks you can always dye a rosewood board.... Some people on here have done that before and it looks good...

Hmm, well early to mid 90s LP studios often had ebony boards if you don't mind an older model. Like so

All of the 2000 Gibson Les Paul Studios that came in limited edition colors also featured the ebony fingerboard.

And better yet, the ebony fingerboard had no inlays.

(Just small dots on the players view, the top of the neck, very cool.)

And you can snag one for right around $700 or less, on average.

I love mine!

If you can find a used Les Paul GT(Not Gold Top)for sale, they have ebony boards.

Also, being a USA and not a Custom shop model, it probably won't break the bank.

Although, the flames are a deal breaker for some,(The Daytona Blue & Phantom Black ones are actually quite subtle in person)these models are built pretty well, with an emphasis on being road worthy.

Locking Grover tuners, Neutrik™ locking cable jack, decent hardware, Graph tech nut, dual truss rod, High pass tone filter, Push/pull pots for coil-split 490R & 498T humbuckers, and strap locks, are all standard.

That's also got a 14" radius. Very appealing!

I place a lot of importance on a guitar with an ebony board.

If you could see the ruts and scallops I've worn into rosewood over 20 years hard use, you would understand why. Much of it is down to my 'poor' technique where fingernails scrape the wood.

That doesnt happen with ebony, its hard enough to withstand all the abuse I dish out. So is maple.

When I choose my ES-339, I selected the Studio version mainly because it had a maple fingerboard.

Ebony is the perfect fingerboard material IMO.

don't go postal on me, (a lot of folks didn't like these), but, you could look for a 2012 model, where many had Baked (Torrified) Maple fret-boards.

I've got a few with Ebony fret boards, my 2012 SG Standard with the Baked Maple fret-board is very very close to the feel of ebony.

I'm in the US by the way, so USA links would definitely help

Thank you =D>[biggrin]

No worries.. Of course they are just examples.. If you look further on ebay and (from what I have heard) Craigslist and Reverb.com you will find loads more examples..

Good luck on your hunt [thumbup]

Thanks again [biggrin]

By the way.. I would also agree that Baked Maple is a good board too... Has almost the hardness of ebony and often the appearance of nice dark rosewood... Really nice...
