darling67
This band just continues to take devastating hits. It might be time for them all to pack it in... or, as the article states, go with a new vocalist. Hmmm.
sparquelito
In my opinion, it is time for AC/DC to hang it up. Legendary band, fantastic legacy, but it is time to put an end to the touring.
sellen
It's hard to be a Rock"n"roller in AC-DC!!! Yea they should stop for their own good, but i think the rock"n"roll train will finish this tour before it rolls in to the end station
Pinch
After decades and decades in the biz (and so much touring), you'd think he would've heard of earplugs and/or in-ear monitors. I wish people took better care of their hearing. I recall a piece in Guitar World back in the early 90s on tinnitus that ended with, "guitars and amps can be replaced - your ears cannot. They must last a lifetime". Pretty much says it all. I'm not saying you necessarily need earplugs if you play a quiet gig once in a while, but if you play really loud rock shows, I think you should wear them, or in-ear monitors . If you play hundreds of really loud rock shows a year, it's just plain stupid not to. That's my 2c, anyway. Regardless, too bad. Hope he recovers. Sad to hear about mr. Young, too. 'Scales
Certainly it makes sense to take precautions. I've seen Ted Nugent say he's deaf in one ear but always used an earplug in the other ear which is fine. How Lemmy never went deaf... However Brian Johnson has been widely quoted as acknowledging it was his failure to wear earplugs in his racing cars that saw his eardrum burst and caused his hearing problems, not the AC/DC stage setup. Pinch
Agree about Lemmy. Not only did he not go deaf, I don't think he said "what?" even once in his life, except as a joke when someone asked him how his hearing was. Of course, the man was a medical mystery in most ways. Oh, it was a burst eardrum? That would be another thing altogether.
stein
I KNOW I shouldn't get my news from Facebook...I know it. But the rumor mill is suggesting he got the boot...kicked out...left behind....snubbed. My computer can't really go on news sites...it likes to crash, and they usually have so many adds and videos it doesn't work. I know it's none of my business, but I guess I am in the mood for gossip and drama. What's the scoop? I find it hard to believe myself.
Rabs
What's the scoop? I find it hard to believe myself. Hmmmm.. That really is hard to believe.... http://consequenceofsound.net/2016/03/brian-johnson-downplays-hearing-issues-says-he-was-kicked-to-the-curb-acdc/ Earlier this month, AC/DC announced the immediate departure of longtime frontman Brian Johnson citing crippling hearing issues. As the band explained it, Johnson risked “total hearing loss” if he continued touring. However, according to Johnson’s longtime friend and comedian Jim Breuer, the AC/DC singer’s hearing issues are being overblown, and Johnson feels he was unfairly “kicked to the curb.” As Ultimate Classic Rock reports, Breuer relayed a recent conversation he had with Johnson during the latest episode of his podcast. “He said that he called and let [the band] know, ‘Hey this is what the doctor said, but let’s try to figure this out.'” Breuer continued, “[Johnson] didn’t say he wanted to quit. He didn’t say he was done. He called with that information, and two days later, he read in the papers and heard on Twitter and everywhere else, ‘Brian Johnson going deaf, canceling tour.’ A day later, and it was ‘Oh, we’re gonna have guest singers.’” (Read: Closing Time: Why More Bands Need to Say Farewell) Breuer said that Johnson even received a second opinion and was told his hearing damage wasn’t as bad as he was initially led to believe. “Then he’s like, ‘You know what? I would really like to finish and do some shows. I think we can knock this out.'” However, as Breuer went on to reveal, “Then all his luggage that he toured with showed up at his driveway. There’s been no calls. No, ‘How’s your hearing? How’s your health? What’s going on?’ Boom. Here’s your ****, nice to know you.'” Johnson told Breuer that he believes Angus Young, who’s seven years his junior, hopes to continue AC/DC for another decade and fears Johnson’s hearing issues would derail those plans. “[Angus] wants to write another album and do one more tour. Who’s filling those shoes? How do you do that after 40 years? It’s just really weird.” According to Breuer, Johnson is “really depressed” and feels like a “hired gun” who has been “kicked to the curb.” We’ve reached out to AC/DC for comment and will let you know if and when we hear back. Listen to Breuer’s comments about AC/DC below.
stein
Thanks for that. That a lot more clear than what's on Facebook. So..still hard to believe. It's basically based on one guy's second hand info, but sounds reliable to me. But still.... ACDC has always struck me as a class act, and pretty private and good about not spreading dirt or dirty laundry. And whenever I have heard of Angus, Malcolm, or Brian speak of each other, it's always the highest praise. Got the idea they were fairly close, at least respectful of each other. Liked each other, which is more rare than not. That's why this story don't sound right- never heard Mr. Johnson speak this way of the brothers. But then again, if he did, the only way WE would hear about it is a private conversation gets leaked.
stein
Come to think of it, another thing that strikes me as odd- would Angus really be that stupid? I don't mean a decision to kick him out, I mean to treat him in a way as to burn a bridge.
stein
But still, I have to say, if it's down to two origonal, it's gonna have to be bust. Hard enough trying to listen to the new album without Malcolm and the 2nd guitar so far down in the mix. I don't think the fans are gonna go for it. Best they can do without Mr. Johnson is fulfill contractual obligations. Maybe get a few good jams in. Maybe turn down a bit, play smaller venues. That would be where they are headed anyway without Mr. Johnson.
'Scales
Angus is the only original (album) player left - but then he was before Brian's demise anyhow. I'd kind of consider Phil Rudd an original (2nd album) but I can't see Angus having him back. Dave Evans has put his hand up to sing, but I can't see that either. I'd like to see Angry Anderson get the gig if he's up to it.
