Extra-light string sets advises

King Freddie

Recommended Posts

I play finger style jazz arrangements, on a LG2. As my arrangements are quite difficult, I use Extra Light 10-47 acoustic sets sometimes in 80/20 other times in Phosphor Bronze. I used until now D'addario EXP sets, but they change the the materials now to "NY Steel" and I don't like the new sound and also I hate the increased stifness of these new EXP sets. I don't need realy coated strings, but I like great flexibility so that it helps my left hand.

If You have any advises to help me choose another brand for 10-47 sets , like extra-light or maybe some 11-50 with round-core to ensure low tension and flexibility ( like Sunbeam or Newtone )

There are many choices , so if you can help me to find a new selection for my LG2 ....

I thank You by advance. As I am living in Europe, the prices of Thomastik, Pyramid, is more affordable than in US ....

So Thank You for your suggestions.

I stockpile T-Enfelds when I find a deal, particularly for their lack of new string 'brightness' and their long life. Never have used anything as light as 10's, and I don't use many jazzy chords, but I was very happy with their 11-52 Spectrum Bronze on my '56 LG-2. I would imagine their lighter strings are equally as good.

You'll no doubt have to sample around to find your match.

Just today I put a set of D'A PB Custom Extra Lights (11 - 52) on my )-16NY martin and I think these are the best strings this guitar has ever had.

Great tone, lively and clear with good presence in the bass. Tension seems comfortable too. Recommended. (Also use them on my 1903 0-28.)

Martins die early, though.

I've heard that before, frequently enough to take it seriously. Thing is, I get less mileage from others than from Martin. Wonder if skin chemistry has an effect of some kind?
