stein
It's kinda odd...the LES PAUL guitar is so popular, that it has more overshadowed his career rather than promoted it. Although, it IS still promoting it. What's maybe just as strange, it doesn't seem the guitar itself was all that popular at the time HE was popular. But really, what a brilliant man and musician. He did things, played things, that nobody else did for some time. His music STILL holds up.
Pinch
Is "Chasing sound" the one where someone asks him "what are you looking for, Les?" and he goes back to the lab/garage in pursuit of the solid-body guitar sound saying "I don't know - I haven't found it yet!"? Saw it at a friend's house. Laughed out loud at that. And at most things in it. If it's the dvd I'm thinking of - I think it is - then I highly recommend it to everyone on planet Earth, guitar player or not. I left thinking, good Lord - what a beautiful person. Not to dismiss all of his inventions that changed the face of popular music, but what I took away from it was "I wanna be like that at his age. He's got a permanent grin on his face, he's funnier than sh-t, he's a great player, and he's apparently very humble as well".
Retired
I've seen him before somewhere on the net but not in this video.
Pinch
He'd go to shows in limos, and whoever booked the cars would have done as well or better with rentals. Dude was grinning all the way there - and it's a grin guitar players know. It says, I get to play guitar, and it's gonna be SO cool. And he was 90 years old at the time. Truly awe-inspiring.
