flatbaroque
Hi ya folks. Finally recovered from my 60th birthday party last Saturday night.Got some good pressies, including concert tickets to Ed Kuepper (one of my favorite Aussie artists). And also Jason Isbell. Here's a song that went down ok at 2 in the morning with my family and friends. Not so sure about the neighbours. Written by an obscure US singer songwriter from the '60's called John Braden.Only had one album. But Ry Cooder and Bruce Langthorne played on it.I've never heard it. I know this song through an Australian pop band called Autumn that had a minor hit with it in the 70's. The subject matter could make it border on kitch...but the taut lyrics and 3 minute storyline make it a good folk song to my ears. Cheers cobbers..been some good songs posted in the last week-had a listen to them tonight - inspired me to have a go as usual. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9ToR0Iqv8LE&feature=youtu.be

BluesKing777
Thanks FB! Nicely done with the murderous clowns and carnies! Speaking of, I thought you had a Panadol and then headed to Adelaide to get that 53 SJ birthday gift? BluesKing777.

Maybe it's just me, but I find it really odd that fine vintage American guitars could end up in South Australia. I thought they all would have been used for firewood while some swagman roasted a jumbuck over a fire by the side of a billabong. Honestly, I think of BK and FB as the modern swagmen. Come to think of it, they both play vintage Gibsons. Oh, never mind. I think I'll have another drink while I wait for my billy to boil..... Probably dry roasted! There use to be a great vintage guitar shop up the road from FB in Sydney - Jacksons Rare Guitars. Truly abyssmal place to get a car park, and probably the end of their business - you could drive up and down going past the shop all day and just see the guitars in the window! Last time I was there, they had ALL the goodies. BluesKing777.
Salfromchatham
Soulful brother! I have to say... I have tried the thumb and finger picks too many times. I have file down the thumb pick, tried plastic finger picks, metal ones.... I always feel it makes my guitar playing sound plucky and shrill. That and you have to really get fundamentals and teqnique down. Not my strong suit! I've always been amazed at easy TVZ made it seem. Well done. flatbaroque
Thanks BK..."murderous clown"..haha..at worst poor Raymondo was just a stalker. Nick, yea I wouldn't mind being a swagman..as long as the billabong has hot showers and a clean toilet .Not sure about being a swagman with BK777 - his hound would eat all the tucker. Sal, I used a thumb pick cause the strings are a bit old and needed a bit of oomph. With my basic picking I find thumb picks easy.Never use finger picks. The Hound is on a vet imposed diet, so he could possibly eat YOU, FB! We'd be both glad to hit the road and escape the drudgery - no phones, laptops, ipads allowed! Walking would do us good, but we'll stay in top hotels that allow dogs. Not because of me, but because the Hound is a bit particular. He also is not too keen on humidity, so across the dry Nullabor direction we head with the swags, which would look good, but maybe left at the first hotel. And how would I ever decide which guitar to take? BluesKing777.
