GibsonTCollings
So here it is - a confession: I'd never entertained the idea of buying a Gibson in all my 15 years of guitar playing. Martin was always my dream guitar because I loved Indigo Girls and they're why I started playing. So, as one does when one dreams, I learned lots on Martin. Well - gave up the guitar for many years and when I took it up again two years ago Martin was back. But then I fell in love with Collings and of course history repeated itself and I educated myself on that maker - along with Santa Cruz, Bourgeois, and Huss & Dalton (as I could only afford one of these guitars). Came into some money and got the bug and by a FLUKE ran across my Gibson online and new instantly I had to have it - everything I'd EVER wanted in a guitar all there in one guitar. But I don't know squat about Gibson!! Nothing! I know they're in Bozeman. That's it. Bob Dylan played one. I think Lennon did. Point is I know nothing. Where is a good repository of info on Gibson, its history, its culture, its je ne sais qui?
OldCowboy
You've come to the right neck of the woods; plenty of information among the fine members of this forum! By the by, Woody Guthrie played Gibsons and, unlike his Martins, he didn't give 'em away.

Cougar
Where is a good repository of info on Gibson, its history, its culture, its je ne sais qui? Yeah, I'd say this is the place if you want to know anything about Gibsons. For sites describing Gibson history, google will likely take you to a number of pages. Of course, a big part of Gibson is on the electric side, but that takes nothing away from the acoustics. Here's a little history of the acoustic side. GibsonTCollings
Thanks for the videos and advice. I'd seen the one video of the factory - I'm not an electric player so it was interesting but kind of ho-hum. I'd love to see the same documentary in the Bozeman factory where the high end acoustics are done.
