awel
Tonight I have an appointment with the director of a belgium record company. It was unexpected, this record company has some great belgian artist signed and apparently they had one of their friend in the crowd when we opened for a French prog band ... weird because I was not confident because we are doing blues rock stuff and playing 30m in front of a prog crowd was not an easy game but we did it and crowd enjoyed. I was contacted 3 days after and said they wanted to see the whole band because they wanted to work with us. Let's see what they will propose. But I am excited

Mr. C.O. Jones
Wow, that's some really good news! Seems like your new black beast came with a bag full of luck. And since I personally think that the talent is already there, I only can wish you more luck.
Guest Farnsbarns
Wow, excellent stuff. Funny, I see a lot of correlation between hard work/dedication and the amount of 'luck' people get.

awel
Thank you all. I really consider this as luck I don't consider myself as a good player, neither a good singer. I work hard but I am the kind of guy really devastated by bad or even worst mean comments on my youtube. Perhaps I am too old but cannot understand the point to destroy somebody's playing or videos on youtube, I mean people just like to play and to share, you can give advises but don't need to be naughty but sadly it seems it is the signs of the times. It's just the nature of the TUBE, to much time on their hands and no talent. And then they bash and troll hardworking people that put all their blood sweat and tears into the videos the upload. It's jealousy, pure and simple! F**k them all. I said it once, and I say it again for me what you do is inspiring. Something that makes me wanna work harder on my playing. And if it is hard for you to take the crap you get now, wait until you have a deal and your first album is out. Take Bonamassa for exaple, do you know how many people bash him? Do what you love, and be proud of yourself! Music to me never was about playing perfectly, it's something for the soul. Technique is nice, but without feeling it makes no sense to me. jdgm
Good luck Awel, I hope they offer you some sort of starter deal you can accept. Some recordings perhaps? You must READ THE SMALL PRINT and do NOT sign away your rights to publishing if you have any original songs. IMO they have become interested because you rocked an AUDIENCE which is half of the equation for business. People don't always understand that. Best wishes. awel
so ... I meet the record company yesterday and my God, to do a record cost a lot! The record cost is 14.000€ (15.500$), as co-producer they participate at 50% so that means 7.000€ (7.763,81 $) to pay for the band, this include the studio, 20days, the mix and the master, the pressed CDs, Itunes, Deezer, Spotify, + the promotion, delivery to several national radios and garantee to be within their playlist. I have no idea if it is a lot or not and so a bit confused

'Scales
Congrats on getting their interest Al, and for having the good sense to ask questions before leaping. The obvious first thing to me would be to satisfy yourself you are not simply paying to be recorded (the additional stuff probably isn't worth much in $ terms) beyond what you should be paying. What I don't see here is what's in it for them - if they are putting in half the cost - why? They are a business, so what do they get in return for their money? The answer to that, plus what is their relationship to the studio, should give you a steer on whether they are in fact really paying anything or if you are actually paying the full cost including their profit. Then I guess it's a matter of what do you want - if it's a momento of your time as a band, can you get that far cheaper? - or will this maybe get you into good paying gigs and offer you the opportunity to get your money back that way (given no one pays for music these days)? Then you might be in a great position to make a decision. For what it's worth (and others will have direct experience I'm sure) one of my very best friends made a 10 track album with his 3 piece rock band - very good, dedicated producer and engineer - on a local arts council grant of around $3.5k US equivalent in 2014. They were able to lay bass, drums and rhythm in a couple of days then lots of time on vocal multi tracking, guitar multi tracking, and the mix and master. Worth your while to maybe get a couple of quotes from studios - they will have a good idea of costs as they do this all the time. All the very best - hope you have fun whatever you decide to do! Good luck Awel, you must have something or they would not call you in. I look forward to hearing the good news. As you were saying about Youtube trols. Yes I can't understand either but I quickly discovered that who you cover makes a big difference. The biggest trols are Bob Dylan fans, it seems that covering a Dylan song is sacrilege. But as you say none of these people ever play. One particular person who rubbished my recording did record himself, it seemed the thing he liked listening to best and recording was the sound of engines running. deeman
Wow, awesome, I never got attention from labels with my band so I can't really advise you, but I'd have a few people look it over for sure. Best of luck!!
