Salfromchatham
I hope you like this... its my Gibson J45. The J50 is still out getting dressed up. I think I will play it early in the first set next weekend. I saw a guy on UMGF do this song... WillySunday. He has sweet guitars... many vintage... and the most excellent taste for simple musical standards. I had never heard the song before. Come to think of it... the best damn thing in these forums is being exposed to new styles of music (new for me) and learning how to play them. https://soundcloud.com/sal-from-chatham/heart-of-saturday-night
BirdMan81
I can picture Neil Young singing this!
OldCowboy
Could be wrong, but I believe I recall hearing Jerry Jeff Walker doing this one - 'way different style, though. Great tune!
j45nick
I like it, Sal. You do have the Neil Young thing going on with this. Time to tackle "Harvest Moon".

MissouriPicker
Yes, nice tune, Sal. I think this kind of song is made for you. You do it your own way and make it your own.
blindboygrunt
Was surprised at it being a sal post Seen the title and automatically though it's gonna be flat baroque Nice job sal Am wondering , since you said you'd never heard the song before , if you covered this still without hearing the original ? Salfromchatham
Grunt... Negative on the original. I heard WillySunday do it, and one other guy do it. Both were videos in the same thread at UMGF. I will be sure to check out Waits. I am pretty sure I could never do a cover in his inimitable style, though! By the way did you know he wrote Bruce's Jersey Girl? And thanks for listening guys. Edited... I just listened to the Waits version. It is not as weird as I was expecting! I have heard this before, though.I don't know when but I definitely heard it; I just didn't know it was Tom Waits. The Waits version reminds me half of flatbaroque and half Springsteen. I did I'm a big fan of Tom waits. That was a nice version you did. I looked at it once or twice in the past , didn't get it in 5 minutes , and left it Another one for you to check out for sure , a proper genius Stay away from swordfishtrombones for the first album you choose , it's highly regarded , but it's not an easy listen The heart of Saturday night is as good a place to start , as you've already covered the title , Heart attack and vine is where he switched from piano playing late night cigarette wine bar crooner to the weird vocals and rock n roll music that made him extremely unique and puts a lot of people off after first listen. Lyrically on a parr with the Dylans , Simons , costellos an Cohens see that little jersey girl in the see-through top, with the peddle pushers sucking on a soda pop, well i bet she's still a virgin but it's only twenty- five 'til nine, you can see a million of 'em on heartattack and vine. Words to die for , but just listen to him sing it . Theres a few more 'difficult' albums , but all are brilliant in their own way . Anyway , sorry about all that 😊 No one quite like him
blindboygrunt
Old flatbaroques got a little waits in him This one from when he used to write stuff 😆 Always reminded me of waits

philfish
Alright Sal It's a Tom Waits song from the album named the same Jerry Jeff Walker did it on his Viva Terlingua album, which I think is out of press. It's a great album with a lot of good songs and song writers from that Texas era

EuroAussie
Yep, enjoyed that Sal Right up there in your range and style. Youre getting regular in picking these laid back stories, thats good, finding your corner. For some reason I also hear BBG doing this song in my head.
