Looking For The Heart of Saturday Night

I hope you like this... its my Gibson J45. The J50 is still out getting dressed up. I think I will play it early in the first set next weekend.

I saw a guy on UMGF do this song... WillySunday. He has sweet guitars... many vintage... and the most excellent taste for simple musical standards. I had never heard the song before. Come to think of it... the best damn thing in these forums is being exposed to new styles of music (new for me) and learning how to play them.

Grunt... Negative on the original. I heard WillySunday do it, and one other guy do it. Both were videos in the same thread at UMGF. I will be sure to check out Waits. I am pretty sure I could never do a cover in his inimitable style, though!

By the way did you know he wrote Bruce's Jersey Girl?

And thanks for listening guys.

Edited... I just listened to the Waits version. It is not as weird as I was expecting! I have heard this before, though.I don't know when but I definitely heard it; I just didn't know it was Tom Waits. The Waits version reminds me half of flatbaroque and half Springsteen.

I did

I'm a big fan of Tom waits.

That was a nice version you did. I looked at it once or twice in the past , didn't get it in 5 minutes , and left it

Another one for you to check out for sure , a proper genius

Stay away from swordfishtrombones for the first album you choose , it's highly regarded , but it's not an easy listen

The heart of Saturday night is as good a place to start , as you've already covered the title ,

Heart attack and vine is where he switched from piano playing late night cigarette wine bar crooner to the weird vocals and rock n roll music that made him extremely unique and puts a lot of people off after first listen.

Lyrically on a parr with the Dylans , Simons , costellos an Cohens

see that little jersey girl in the see-through top, with the peddle pushers

sucking on a soda pop, well i bet she's still a virgin but it's only twenty-

five 'til nine, you can see a million of 'em on heartattack and vine.

Words to die for , but just listen to him sing it .

Theres a few more 'difficult' albums , but all are brilliant in their own way .

Anyway , sorry about all that 😊

No one quite like him

Sweet Salvatore! Nice version.Pretty cool that you did this without hearing the original.Heart of Saturday Night is a great and very listener friendly TW album. The first I bought after Nighthawks at the Diner (which is a live masterclass).

Bloody hell BBG found one of my old songs.Didn't know I still had a Soundcloud..thanks mate and happy belated St Pats.My grandparents were married in St Patrick's church on St Patrick's day.About 100 years ago.

Alright Sal

It's a Tom Waits song from the album named the same

Jerry Jeff Walker did it on his Viva Terlingua album, which I think is out of press.

It's a great album with a lot of good songs and song writers from that Texas era
