redsg
I've been considering putting my 2009 Les Paul Traditional (iced tea burst) for sale on reverb.com and went into their handy Price Guide to see what these types of guitars have been selling for. When I scrolled down to skim through the specs on this year and model guitar, I noticed that it listed the neck as being made from "three-piece Maple." Is this true? I was certain up until this point that my guitar had a single piece mahogany neck. If anybody can clear this up, I'd be ever so grateful. I've attached a pic of my guitar for visual reference. btoth76
Hello and welcome to the Forums! I doubt it! Three-piece, maple neck was typical for the second half of 70s on Les Pauls. Not recently. Most likely, it's one-piece mahogany. Bence.
btoth76
Please, post the back of the guitar, so we can see the neck. Bence.
Mr. C.O. Jones
All I know is that I got wood looking at the pic you posted! Well now that I'm here let me welcome you redsg!
1all's Pub
All Trads since their inception (2008) have had 1-piece mahogany necks. If this one has a 3-piece maple neck then it's a fake. That said, from the pic it looks legit and it's FAR more likely that the seller just doesn't actually know what he has. Beautiful looking LP, btw... I really dig Iced Tea. merciful-evans
I can understand this being a worry, but I would actually prefer a 3 piece maple neck (as long as it was not fake that is!).
redsg
Thank you for the warm welcome! I also inquired with Gibson Custom Service about this by providing my guitar's serial number, and Gibson confirmed that these guitars all have 1-piece mahogany necks. So this morning, I actually live chatted with somebody at reverb.com and pointed out the inaccuracy of that information on their "price guide" page. The person on the other end seemed kind of slow to realize what I was talking about, even though I provided a link. It doesn't look like they've changed it, even though I pointed out to them that this error might be negatively impacting sales of used Les Paul Traditionals on reverb.com. Here's the link to that page, by the way: https://reverb.com/price-guide/guide/12233-gibson-les-paul-traditional-2008-ice-tea-burst Anyway, I'm glad to know my guitar has the neck I was told it had when I bought it. I haven't decided to sell it yet, but if I do, I'll know the correct specs. The specs Gibson sent me are: BODY Top Species: AA Figured Maple or Plain Maple(solid finishes) Back Species: Mahogany(traditional weight-relief) Binding: Single-Ply Top (Antique Cream) NECK Species: Mahogany(1 piece) Profile: '50's Rounded Head Inlay: Gibson Logo + Les Paul Model FINGERBOARD Species: Rosewood Scale Length: 24 3/4" Number of Frets: 22 Nut Width: 1.695"+/-.050" Inlays: Trapezoid Fingerboard Binding: Single-Ply (Antique Cream) HARDWARE Plating Finish: Chrome Tailpiece: Gibson Stop Bar Bridge: Gibson Tune-O-Matic Knobs: Gold Speed Knobs Tuners: Green Keys ELECTRONICS Pickups: '57 Classic Pickups Neck Pickups: '57 Classic Bridge Pickups: '57 Classic Plus Controls: 2 Volume, 2 Tone, Ceramic caps, 3 Way Switch Have an awesome day!
