Vtpicker
I need advice. The advanced jumbo I bought has a long saddle. I like to have an extra one on hand so I don't have to search for one at the last minute when something happens. I've checked pre-intonated long blanks at Colosi's and at Stew Mac's. Bob is charging $40 while Stew only charges $14; both are bone. Stew Mac describes theirs as having a 10 degree radius, but I thought the Gibson AJ has a 12 degree radius. Does anyone have any experience buying one of these? Any thoughts are welcome.
vw1300
I haven't had to replace my AJ saddle yet, but is StewMac's Gibson saddle actually available for an AJ thru-saddle? I don't see it on their website. I'd confirm that. If it is, I'd say give it a try for only $14. Bob's saddles are held in high regard here, I'm sure his would work just fine. Vtpicker
It just has to be long enough to shape the ends to fit after fitting the saddle to the slot and the action. The one at Stew Macs is unbleached bone and is 4 inches long. It is radiused for Gibson and intonated for the B string. I think Bob's are shaped a little more but final fitting is still required. I'm going to call StewMac on Monday and ask them about the radius being 10 degrees. All the comments are positive so it must work. Have you ever checked the radius of your guitar to see what it is? Is yours glued in place? Thanks for responding. http://www.stewmac.com/Materials_and_Supplies/Nuts_and_Saddles/Unbleached_Bone_Saddles/Reviews/Lowest/Page1.html#reviews

I believe the Gibson radius should be about 12", and Martin is a flatter 14". Bob Colosi will make it exactly like you want, but you will pay a little extra for it. It's worth it. You can also send him an existing saddle, and he will replicate it or modify the new one as you wish.
