Finally, after 9 1/2 weeks of anticipation. I pre-ordered this on January 21st. It is made in Korea (I know, another no-no), that was part of the delay. When it got to the states, it was held up by Customs, in Chicago, because a shipment of fish was part of the overall shipment, so Customs held the whole shipment for about a week. When it was finally received at Michael Kelly's facility last Tuesday, they shipped immediately to the dealer's warehouse, not the store (which delayed it even more). Finally, the dealer (Fazio's) overnight shipped it to their store. They got it today and I'm picking it up right after work.

I'll upload more pictures, with the hard-shell case, later, and let you know how it plays and sounds.

Wow.. nice... Now that is something different.. I quite like the Michael Kelly electrics too....

It kinda makes me a little sad though seeing that beautiful wood top have solid colour (can you see the grain under it?), but it does make for an interesting contrast...

I know, I hate covering up beautiful wood grain too, but I liked the color and the way it transitions to where you can see the grain. It's all Quilted Maple with Mahogany neck and Rosewood fingerboard. I haven't actually seen it in person yet. The pictures are from their website. I'll give a full review tomorrow, including the looks.

OK, Here's the obligatory pictures and initial review.

The guitar is beautiful and sounds great. I am going to take it to my local guitar tech. and have him lower the bridge to get the action lower. The Color is actually Dark Brown fading into a beautiful Light Brown showing the quilt. When holding the guitar, I can see most of the quilt on the top through the Dark Brown. Really bright tone.

Congrats, very nice too - I've read plenty about M Kelly guitars and they have a good rep.

Is that a blue label inside the soundhole?

Yes, only thing I'll have to live with is it says "Made in China". I hate out-sourcing, wish MK could make them in the US. ](*,)

I've got one of the Michael Kelly quilted maple Hybrid Specials. It's beautifully put together, sounds really nice, has great low action, a beautiful neck and wide fretboard.

Enjoy yours! They're great guitars.

Will do, you too! [thumbup]

careful what ya wish for, that would easily triple the cost.

at least the newer MIC/MIK and other off shore makes are much better than we're used to seeing.

Glad you got a happy ending tho... it's an unusual looking guitar.

any specs on the pickup? what's it go it there? I see two little wheels at the top of the sound hole, but there are a few that do this now. (Fishman?)

It's a Fishman. The two wheels in the sound hole are volume and tone.

if thats a matrix, I have two, it's a mid cut control.

I liked these a lot, till my J200 came with the LR Baggs anthem.. Wow, quite the difference.

with the mic+saddle mix, you can dial out the "quack" from the under-saddle pickup
