In Ear Monitors

I wanted to share my experience with buying in ear monitors.

Recently ive been using in ear monitors with normal headphones through garage band, and always wanted to have in a live setting, as i do feel the difference in hitting notes and overall pitch.

Anyway, always thought these things were mega pricey, but Thomann, the European Guitar Center equivalent has a wireless unit going for only 100 euro.

It arrived yesterday, and have to say absolutely loving it.

Works like a treat, very simple and even though i bought higher grade in ear headphones i prefer the stock ones as they are warmer.

I like to use it in one ear only so i can also hear the warmth of whats coming out of the amp or PA through the other ear. When i put both into my ear it sounds a bit thin and midrangey for my liking.

But most importantly it really, really helps with hitting pitch when you have this immediate response of an in ear monitor.

Just wanted to share that, as they really do make a massive difference, they help you focus on the material, shout out distractions and give you best possible chance of hitting pitch.

And they are actually very price accessable !

This is the one I bought: http://www.thomann.de/gb/the_tbone_iem_75.htm?ref=search_rslt_in+ear+monitor_314071_9

I've wondered about these sort of things myself as i suffer same trouble you do . Be scared of the ribbing my mates would give me if I turned up at the local pub with them

But if I was playing solo I'd consider them.

Keep us posted on the progress

When's the first solo gig ?

It's definitely a lot easier to find your pitch with them.

I went cheap tho.. I use wired headphones, I have a few set of buds which are pretty discreet I can use performing, I run the cable behind me with an extension to the phone jack on the sound board.

I'm usually sitting so there's not a lot of problems with moving, but wireless ones would definitely be preferred. checking your link..

I bought the Shure SE525 in ears, no wireless.

Just absolutely stunning, about 3 mini speakers per ear.

Except they are so clear that I love hearing music through them, but just can't stand hearing ME in them! The Truth!

Give me blurry old headphones.

Just kidding, they are sensational - they were the top of the line Shures but new ones are even better, we are told.

There is a lot of stuffing around putting them and keeping them in your ears and getting used to the sound of them.

I think I also read somewhere that wearing just one is bad for hearing? Need to check on that.
