MissouriPicker
Anyone use one of these adjustable chairs for gigs/home/studio? There are several out there and they all appear to be very similar: They elevate from approx. short stool/chair level to the height of a tall bar stool. They all have a back that can be removed and are all (to varying degrees) fairly easy to take-apart and haul around. I've been looking at some of them as I focus on upgrading my cables, mic stands, etc. as I make a long-delayed move into the "modern era."` Here's what I'm talking about------- http://www.amazon.com/Odyssey-DJCHAIR-Adjustable-Dj-Chair/dp/B001Q3KT4M/ref=cm_cr_arp_d_product_sims?ie=UTF8 http://www.amazon.com/Quik-DX749-Deluxe-Seat-Black/dp/B008FJXGU4/ref=cm_cr_arp_d_pdt_img_sims?ie=UTF8
BluesKing777
The first one looks a bit high to fall off, especially if you have a whisky! And the second looks a bit ....naff... Hold your horse because the ones they rave about on forums is the Soundseat - look down to the breakdown model for guitarists...do a search of the forums for endless votes (I have never seen one here): http://www.soundseat.com/models.php but if you think they are a bit over the top, the Gunde folding chair plus a cushion could do it: http://www.ikea.com/au/en/catalog/products/20217800/ BluesKing777. MissouriPicker
The one from Ikea isn't very sturdy for what I need. Had one about three years ago and they're pretty flimsy and don't sit high enough when you need to be above the audience. Plus, if they're not on a completely flat surface they start getting crooked. Worst of all, I don't feel safe sitting on it with an expensive guitar. I've been doing a lot of wineries since last summer and for better or worse, women drinking wine often like to try and sit on your lap for pictures. Don't need a chair/stool to collapse. And for sure, Soundseat is "over the top."

blindboygrunt
$300 for a stool ! Get a grip of yerself
MissouriPicker
Yeah, 300 is crazy. No way I'd pay that. .............Wineries pay pretty well. Around here they pay 150-200 for 2hrs. That's what the four I've played pay. Done three of them four times so far and the other one twice and have monthly scheduled dates with all of them up to mid-October. They've kind of popped-up all-over this area. No shortage of them if that's your kind of deal. Don't know how long the majority of them will survive, so I'm going to play them before the economy wipes most of them out and the survivors get to pick from a multitude of real songwriters/performers...lol.... I figure if I get a half-way-kind-of-know-what-I'm-doing look to me, it will help get and keep some of those gigs for now. ......Bought me some real good mic and instrument cables too. This IPad Pro that my wife talked me into has really kind of inspired me. I'll never be much more musically than what I am now, but I'm having a blast with it. blindboygrunt
The stills great , but it busts my balls when they label it guitar stool and add a couple hundred It's a wonder stewmac haven't got one. Got an email from them showing a 'guitar light' which is a standard under lighter from kitchen but it's $
EuroAussie
$200 a gig is really good Larry, milk it mate. Here its basically half of that, but then a pint of beer is only $2 .... and thats for free during and after the gig. Cant really complain. Mafy31
The $80 chair at amazon seems great! interesting... and what about these ?
badbluesplayer
Drafting chairs are really nice but they're a little heavy and bulky.
kidblast
hey Larry that second link you posted, I just may have to look into that. I have a few bar stools that I have cut down (the tall ones are just too big for me).. but, during long sessions, they just kill the back. That quick lok chair would be the bomb!! :)
Murph
hey Larry that second link you posted, I think I liked the second one better too. I have some tall heavy well cushioned barstools (with backs) in my music room that came from a Casino that are nice, but you couldn't haul them around for gigging. Pittgibson45
The $80 chair at amazon seems great! interesting... and what about these ? It looks like the necks on those aren't quite straight. I would check the humidity. Usually solid body guitars don't have that problem.

LesWeasel
I have something similar to the DX749 - I think it's a BX714. On that one, the footrest is a fixed height. If I lower the seat so that my feet rest flat on the floor, because of the design, it puts the footrest too far behind the center of the seat and too high. I also have a Sound Seat. They seem expensive, but when you compare what you get, they’re comparable in price to the Quik Lok. Three time the price, but well over three times the chair IMHO. modoc_333
We sell the first one you linked to here in the store. It seems good until you sit on it for a while. Then it just is awkward. Keith
