A SONG FOR THURSDAY

Here's a song I wrote about some of the things I'm thankful for. Didn't have it quite ready yet, but after reading Doug the Old Geezer's post about his battle with lymphoma, I was inspired. There's more to all of this thing called "life" than us.

Must Be God's Grace written by Larry Garrett

Got an old bulldog. Darla's her name.

Could have called her anything. She'd a been the same.

She drools on my clothes, but I've got no regrets.

I can replace these clothes, but never a friend like this.

This ol' house....there were times I had my doubts,

If the old roof and walls would keep the rain out.

But my kids grew-up and played here....now my grandkids do.

Like livin' in a lighthouse that guides love home to you.

Chorus......

Must be God's grace comin' down on me.

Must be God's grace comin' down on me.

Folks are free to disagree, but it's no mystery to me.

Must be God's grace comin' down on me.

I've had runs of back luck throughout my life,

But no matter how tough the times, I somehow survive.

Friends and family tell me, "You're so damn lucky."

I just smile and say, "Someone up there likes me."

Bridge.....All these good things in my life, they're more than coincidence.

As a matter-of-fact I believe they're all heaven-sent.

Folks are free to disagree, but it's no mystery to me.

Must be God's grace comin' down on me.

Irene's my wife. Me and her forty-five years.

I ain't no King Arthur, but she's my Guinevere.

I asked her, "Why'd you stay and not do better for yourself?"

She laughed and said, "Because you need help."

Chorus......

As always, a very nice song.

You have a very natural, easy style up there that just fits perfectly with the stories you tell.

Like that high note in the chorus on "coming down on me".

Nice guitar strap, btw.

That was very, very nice. Like I think I've said before, you have a style of playing, singing and sonwriting that is instantly recognizable. If you were a "pop group" one would say you have your own sound. I especially like the lighthouse line. Very nice!

Have you ever thought about recording your songs in a more professional manner, like Anne. I bet family would cheerish a thing like that, and it would be a wonderful gift for the young ones if they ever take up music and guitar. You might also make a buck or two selling them at the coffeshop.

Lars

Edit: Selling the CDs, that is, not the youngs ones... [biggrin]
