Brain Hurter Test Tracks

Recommended Posts

I can only kinda spot the first one and I think as well its Martin has it right the BK..

the middle two sound very similar to me, that last one, seemed a bit deeper sounding... so yea I'll go with what Martin posted..

Trick question! These were all the same guitar, only played on different days under different RH conditions...

...or maybe it was my cheap headphones.

Anyway, I'll go with 1 and 3 being the Gibsons, but outside of that I have no idea.

Trick question?

I didn't think of that - I should have guessed that people would listen on cheap headphones or even with a phone!

All the guitars have Elixir PB Nano 12.

3 guitars are exactly the same size - L-0, CEO7, BK- with the OM slightly larger. (L-0 is mahogany/adi; CEO7 is mahogany/adi; BK is bubinga/sitka; OM is mahogany/adi).

And the answer is...............

Spill the beans already? [wink]

I was hoping to get a few more replies and ask a few questions first.....

Like..

Which guitar do you like the best?

Which guitar sounds the oldest?

(All except the 37 L-0 have been on the Tonerite - scared the L-0 may fall to bits, and the OM18A has the torrefied top to make it sound like it would have in 1933.... [drool] )

Being of a "psychic" mind...I'll offer this>

your favorite is the L-0

the best tone is the OM-18

the best bang for the bucks ...CEO-7

the most fun ripping 'em out ...Blues King

and if you could only pull one from a burning building....you'd go for all of 'em :)

Fire? Yipes!!!

(possible - the better half always leaves things on ).

Well, the 37 L-0 is irreplaceable!

The others could be re-bought, I suppose, if the insurance pays enough. (never trust those bloodsuckers til the cash is in your pocket).

Money? The BK and the CEO7 were about the same cost take home. The 37 L-0 was cheap as chips to buy, but I spent a fortune on a neck reset, new fretboard, new bridge, saddle, nut, tuners etc...etc.... The OM18 Authentic cost well over double the CEO7......

The BK is the only one with a pickup - ready to roll!

The BK has the skinnier Gibson neck, but I like it capoed up a couple.

The 37 L-0 has a wider V neck that has been shaved and beaten by a previous ninny and re-made and set up by my local guy to the best he could do, but I still need to capo up because the funny little dip in the back of the neck that used to be a big fat V.

The CEO7 and the OM18V both have their version of the dreaded by some Modified V with 1 3/4" nut and wider bridge spacing. (2 5/16" and 2 3/8" respectively.)

Both Martins still have their factory setups... Both Gibsons have been to the golden bath for a dip!

The OM18A and the old 37 L-0 will probably never leave the house, while the BK and the CEO7 would be easy travellers....

What else?

OK, got to listen with some decent headphones.

1. L-0

2. OM-18A

3. BK

4. CEO-7

Whatever they are, I liked #1 the best. It had the least low end, but had a nice vintag-y tone to it. Very nice playing there, all the way around.

Ha ha....

I forgot to tell you about their different smells...... [biggrin]

The BK still smells like the Gibson Pump Polish I used once only on it.

The CEO7 smells like pancakes or something....

The OM18a smells like peanut butter on wholemeal toast with sesame. (that might be my fault).

But the 1937 L-0 smells like something from a Steve King book that has been dug up...... :(

Aha!

Having fun dragging it out!

But nobody has picked them correctly....so far.....

I should have made notes of which track was which guitar, eh?

The 37 L-0 is a spooky little guitar. I'm fairly sure it was not where I put it, a couple of times now, and it may have just been me getting mixed up but after doing the recording above, the L-0 was in the wrong case when I went to play it just now..... [scared] [scared] [scared]

I just recorded 2 tracks with it and all of a sudden, I could smell bbq.....and then Bourbon! And the recording 'On' light started flashing and.........

Wow, I pretty much got nothing right, except that I liked the first one the best (see my GAS wish list below).

I guess I know what I like at least. [thumbup]

My CEO-7 sounded like your OM-18 :)

When I first read your reply, for a moment I thought you had the clean sweep! [mellow]

CEO7 and OM18A are the same woods....

Shall I do another test on the weekend, or does everyone hate me? [smile]
