EuroAussie Posted June 24, 2016 Posted June 24, 2016 After the pound just slid almost 10% after Brexit results. Feel really sorry for you guys. Epic fail. All my English mates leaving in Prague are in tears. Funny thing is we're playing at a British Pub tonite, not quite sure how to handle it or what to say .... any suggestions ?
blindboygrunt Posted June 24, 2016 Posted June 24, 2016 After living in Northern Ireland for 40 something years, I've learnt that it's best to keep your mouth shut . Politics and alcohol aren't a good mix I dont think there is a right or wrong in this one . Strong arguments for staying and leaving , but I guess the people have spoken and that's that . most days I see things that the average man on the street is doing and panic when I think they can go and vote 🙄
fretplay Posted June 24, 2016 Posted June 24, 2016 Right BB it's not a decision we should have made but the cats out of the bag now.
MorrisrownSal Posted June 24, 2016 Posted June 24, 2016 Play Should I Stay or Should I Go - The Clash Revolution Baby Did a Bad Bad Thing -chris isaak Hard Times in New York City -Dylan Hard Days Night One bourbon, one shot, one beer The coconut Song. Music can mix with world events.... But only in light hearted ways in my opinion.

Murph Posted June 24, 2016 Posted June 24, 2016 I think Britain, and the Pound, will bounce back very quickly and be stronger than ever. Independence is a good thing.
Mafy31 Posted June 24, 2016 Posted June 24, 2016 Even though this forum is not about politics i feel sad as well, like i guess many french are today. Sometimes we just cannot take a road just by this kind of poll, people do not have all the knowledge to take such a critical decision, especially when it is something that has been slowly building for over 50 years.
EuroAussie Posted June 24, 2016 Author Posted June 24, 2016 Yeah, youre right fellas. Still in shock. But Gibsons will be pricier in the UK
Mafy31 Posted June 24, 2016 Posted June 24, 2016 Yup, and everything will get even more pricey with new taxes for imports. So it prolly will not serve their exports. Though i never bought a gibson there anyway.
Boyd Posted June 24, 2016 Posted June 24, 2016 "Money for Nothing" always seems to be a popular tune in Europe. ;) Look at the bright side, your collection of Gibsons just got more valuable.
jimmyboy Posted June 24, 2016 Posted June 24, 2016 Wow...GBP went down 10% ??? It's time to sell US dollars and buy pound. I'm sure it will bounce back to around 1.5 within the next 3 months.
vacamartin Posted June 24, 2016 Posted June 24, 2016 Yeah, youre right fellas. Still in shock. But Gibsons will be pricier in the UK I think pricier on the mainland......Europe is about to become fodder for the bankruptcy courts and the IMF.......
E-minor7 Posted June 24, 2016 Posted June 24, 2016 A bit hard to sing, but how about Hello Goodbye. Well, , , you and your partner (if he's still in) recites it, doin' 1 part each. You say yes I say no You say stop and I say go go go (chord) - Oh no You say goodbye and I say hello You say high I say low You say why and I say I don't know (chord) - Oh no - I don't know why you say goodbye I say hello. . And then both of you burst into the catchy outro for a minute or 2
mountainpicker Posted June 24, 2016 Posted June 24, 2016 Predicting the future is an interesting endeavor. Anyone know how the Brit bookies ended up on this one? I understand that it was one of the most heavily wagered events in UK history.

fortyearspickn Posted June 24, 2016 Posted June 24, 2016 I don't think The Dixie Chicks should have made a political statement about US politics, especially in UK. Their shooting star crashed and burned. I would never presume to know enough about the politics and governance of ANY country other than my own. Politics is a necessary evil. Politicians get power and then try to figure out how to get more.

IMHO, play the gig as if people were there for a good time and a break from the outside world. Let them appreciate you for what you do musically, not for your concern with current happenings.
dReit1 Posted June 24, 2016 Posted June 24, 2016 I don't comment much on my own politics so I sure don't want to talk about someone else's. And I'm sorry that the cost of US made guitars will be going up in England. But I have been putting off buying a set of P90s from Bare Knuckle so if the pound stays down until Monday I'll be saving $40.00

I doubt it... it will probably fall way further down, cause they plan to print lots of money; i wouldnt risk it :)
Jayyj Posted June 24, 2016 Posted June 24, 2016 I work in retail in the UK guitar industry. The UK industry is based primarily on imported instruments with very little domestic product and even the few companies that do build instruments are heavily reliant on imported parts and materials, so as long as the pound stays down we can expect to see substantial rises in most things related to guitars and other instruments. Coupled with that we're looking at a depression in the market regardless of prices, with potentially rises in mortgage rates, cost of living and uncertainty in the job market at a time where parts of the country are still struggling to recover from the last financial crisis. There's a good chance that in the time it takes for the market to recover confidence the country will tip into recession. There's going to be a leadership election before we even start to negotiate what relationships we can have with the EU once we leave, so I don't honestly see a quick recovery here. At least far as my own job is concerned these next few months are going to be very testing times. Still, if you're outside the UK and you fancy a nice handmade British acoustic - and we really do make some great stuff - now's a good time to buy!
Boyd Posted June 24, 2016 Posted June 24, 2016 Perhaps we will see some nice prices on Hiscox cases too. :)

Zentar Posted June 25, 2016 Posted June 25, 2016 The EU and globalism are destroying the West deliberately. We can defeat globalism as evidenced by the vote by Brits to exit EU. Globalism can be stopped. It is not unbeatable. There are enough of us to stop it but will we continue to fight globalism or go back in our hole we've been hiding in? As an example of hiding: how many of you know that global warming is globalism? It is very clever propaganda but it is propaganda not fact.
