BluesKing777 Posted June 29, 2016 Posted June 29, 2016 Just recorded this acoustic/vocal version of Bob Dylan's "All Along The Watchtower" I like the simple chords ringing out, and BBG and Vacamartin could use this track as their 'playoff' - guess which guitar! https://soundcloud.com/bk7-3/watchtower777 BluesKing777.
MissouriPicker Posted June 29, 2016 Posted June 29, 2016 I'm jealous of your guitar playing. Very, very good. [thumbup]
vacamartin Posted June 29, 2016 Posted June 29, 2016 "Smokin;" version...........................if my choices are -J45, D18, HD28,........I say HD-28
jdd707 Posted June 29, 2016 Posted June 29, 2016 Much good job. I liked the intro and the guitar breaks! The outro needs to grow on me but I think the contrast with the body of the song is interesting.
BluesKing777 Posted June 29, 2016 Author Posted June 29, 2016 Thanks for the replies! I was doing a few tunes from the Bob book, and if you had said I would be posting this tune, I would have been surprised. But some of his other ones I did have strange connotations - eg: Knocking on H.D, Blowing in the W. etc etc. Watchtower has some guitar connotations from that other chap. But I really enjoy strumming and singing the lyric (fingerstyle with thumb and index mainly), but found an unusual problem from other Mr Dylan tunes - he didn't write many lyrics for this one! I added the lead fill things because the song was over in about 4 seconds otherwise, and plonking along on the chords sounded fairly bland.....perils of solo performers! I could heavily edit that arrangement above, but then it would be over in ...5 seconds. The rambling arrangement I did stays. Also waiting to see if BBG wants to compete against Vacamartin's reply of the guitar used as D18, but he has gone strangely quiet.... could be a default coming up? BluesKing777.
blindboygrunt Posted June 30, 2016 Posted June 30, 2016 Sorry was waiting until I was able to listen with headphones Didn't help Great version BK , didn't think I'd enjoy anyone with another cover of that, but there ya go ! 👍🏻👏 HD28 😬
EuroAussie Posted June 30, 2016 Posted June 30, 2016 Top shelf there BK, right next to the aged Jack Daniels.
BluesKing777 Posted June 30, 2016 Author Posted June 30, 2016 Thanks there! Well, I have to say it was close.... Well, not really. I played my 2015 Martin D18. Vacamartin gets the cheese! \:D/ \:D/ \:D/ [-o< [-o< I don't think any other guitar could get the feel I had in the verses - my HD28v would still be ringing and my J45 would have more Gibson thunk..... D18 just right. (Though I was just playing around with my 1935 Gibson L50 and the plunkety sound that has is sort of more 'Early Bob' or even 'Woody'...) BluesKing777.
blindboygrunt Posted June 30, 2016 Posted June 30, 2016 Ha , well I knew t was a Martin. I'm not very good at this sort of thing , the first round was kinda flukey . Or an educated guess would be a better way of putting it . The fact that vacamartin said d18 first made me guess elsewhere , but that's what a sore loser would say isn't it. Man only being honest though Thanks for the fun BK

I DO remember him having D18 before, because I thought the gig was up. Must have changed his mind..... I get to keep the cheese and the new Polytune Full Exasperation Big Thumb Fangerpakker Pedal after all. BluesKing777.
Murph Posted June 30, 2016 Posted June 30, 2016 you certainly made that your own. Bingo. And that is as much a gift as your talent, ability and skill.

So you DID change your original offer of D18, Vaca? Or I am seeing things. I just remember thinking how you aced it, and close on the other track too. And then it became HD28 after BBG said HD28?
