Johnny3j Posted July 2, 2016 Posted July 2, 2016 Hi guys, I have an ES137 Classic sunburst, I love the guitar but one thing is puzzling me. It features a Varitone circuit which was, I understand, only found on the Custom versions of this guitar. Was this guitar a special order? Does Gibson take special requests on standard production guitars? Just wondering :-) Thanks for any insight.
Versatile Posted July 4, 2016 Posted July 4, 2016 Possibly a retro fit...? I have seen several posts on forums various enquiring about fitting Varitone circuitry to guitars like ES335.... I have a Blueburst ES137 Classic which is excellent and of course sans Varitone... V
Johnny3j Posted July 11, 2016 Author Posted July 11, 2016 Thanks for the reply, Versatile, I should think that's the only logical answer. When the Varitone rotary switch is at "Off" e.g. before position 1, do you happen to know if the Varitone components are physically separated from the rest of the guitar's circuitry? Thanks again, Johnny3j
Jon S. Posted July 12, 2016 Posted July 12, 2016 Email pics of the guitar and serial number to us at service@gibson.com and we'll be happy to check it out. With the Varitone in "bypass" there is still a resistor in the signal path, so it's not completely separated.
