Buc McMaster Posted July 7, 2016 Posted July 7, 2016 I reckon a few of you may have heard of Slaid Cleaves. He's a bonafide Texan these days but he got here via Maine.........and writes a tune like this about his new found home. Seems to be an exercise in finding rhymes for "Texas" and definitely a tasty little tune..............wish I'd written this one! Sure is nice to be retired and sit home playing a new guitar all day! (.....or going fishing!) (DR Sunbeam lights, tuned down a half step with the high E and B changed to .013 and .017; Blue Chip TPR50 pick.........for those interested in such things.) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nxMeb11hk_w
scriv58 Posted July 7, 2016 Posted July 7, 2016 sounds great- gurf morlix is another great texas songwriter largely unheard of...
jdd707 Posted July 7, 2016 Posted July 7, 2016 Good stuff Buc. Love me some Slaid Cleaves! And you are right about retirement ...... Now have time to do those "for me" things. I don't understand those who have trouble adjusting .... what's not to like? They send me money NOT to work. Good deal for them and me.
MorrisrownSal Posted July 7, 2016 Posted July 7, 2016 Tasty Buc. Have to say Lyle Lovett does the Lone Star State better with his You're Not From Texas. But ya need a full band for that one! Thanks for sharing the tools too. I have a set of sunbeams I want to try on my Country Western next.
vacamartin Posted July 7, 2016 Posted July 7, 2016 Good stuff Buc. Love me some Slaid Cleaves! And you are right about retirement .... what's not to like? They send me money NOT to work. Good deal for them and me. LOL............Amen to that wonderful twist of fate
Murph Posted July 8, 2016 Posted July 8, 2016 Bravo. I lived in Texas for a short time when I was a kid. Even went to Luckenbach.
Buc McMaster Posted July 8, 2016 Author Posted July 8, 2016 Thanks for watching, folks! B) Gurf (from New York), Lyle (from Houston!), Van Zandt (from Ft Worth), Ramsey (from Alabama), Cleaves (from Maine).......there are beaucoup terrific Texas singer/songwriters, some of which were born here, the rest got here as quick as they could. Texas seems to be a magnet for folk/Americana/country writers.......dunno why.
blindboygrunt Posted July 8, 2016 Posted July 8, 2016 Buc , ya know there's very few with a way with a pick like you have Brilliant (Zero sarcasm) 👍🏻👏
MissouriPicker Posted July 8, 2016 Posted July 8, 2016 Yeah, you're real smooth with the pick, Buc. I enjoyed that tune a lot.....You know what they say: A jazz musician play 300 chords for 3 people. A cowboy plays 3 chords for 300 people.
