Just picked this up today. 1943 ( I believe) Banner J45 (all hog). Bridge is cracked and non-original but it's otherwise original from what I can tell and sounds like a Banner Gibson should. Lucky day. [smile]

Ha! The table! Too funny. Sold the old table and have a new one but, in the middle of a construction project so, it's in another room. Here's a shot of '43 with her younger cousin '50.

Nicely done, sir! Nicely, done....

But I don't like the look of that chop saw. Might want to move it to another room before it goes all Stephen King on your new acquisition.

On it! [scared]

Nice guitar! I'd love to get an old hog like that.

Besides the bridge, what are you going to have done to it? Fret board looks well played.

. . . and no TV?

Congrats on the old guitar. Looks like a thinner edge burst on the lower 'bout. Two piece top?

Any stamping on the neck block (poplar?)? Gumwood or rose' fretboard? Hopefully, those divots will come most of the way out when the 'board is resurfaced. And- did you catch what TPBiii was saying recently about Gibson lowering the location of the tuners in late '44? I think that's what he said (?).

Rambler- hearing a copious amount of low rumble in the '43/'44 'hog I included in that Luthier from Hell clip, but that was not the playing style that would best emphasize it.

Enjoy the NOGD.

A really fine score! If the bridge is the only issue - you struck gold! Nothing, to me says 'icon' like a legitimate vintage J45.

And, sadly, nothing gives me GAS like they do !

Congrats!

Your guitar pictures are where I get my news dude. Where's the TV?

Nice guitar!

You guys are a riot! New OLED TV is still in box until construction is finished. So, I'm thinking this guitar may turn out to be a 1945 or 1946. I know things are pretty dicey with Gibson from this era but, the TRC and the belly bridge make me wonder. The neck block is blank. No evidence of a faded FON. Just blank. Big baseball bat neck which is surprisingly comfortable. Neck appears to be 1 piece. As for work, it will need a new bridge, fret board planed, frets dressed and that's about it. No cracks, braces are tight. Sounds fantastic. Let me know your thoughts on year? Thx

Here is the post on tuner re-location that tpbiii made: http://forum.gibson.com/index.php?/topic/131270-could-this-be-a-rare-banner-j-50/page__view__findpost__p__1780584. The guitar on the far left and the one on the far right may be the easier ones to see the difference. And 1946 might be considered the year for the most guitars without fon's from that period.

Feel free to post a pic of the headstock, front/rear; that might provide some clues. Late '46/early '47 went down from 1 3/4" nut (?).

Hahe, , , have the feeling it went into this bargain.

Sure, very nice guitar. Congratulations. The banner is hoisted.
