Willie King Posted July 11, 2016 Posted July 11, 2016 I have a Blues King L-00. This instrument, according to a website I found, was produced on July 31st, 2007 in Nashville, Tennessee, and was instrument #54 stamped that day. But the label says Bozeman, Montana. It was a lucky find on CL about 5 years ago. It has Bubinga back and sides and Grover mini tuners. It plays like a dream and I love the sound of the Bubinga. I had a hand built J model made by a friend while in the service in the late '60's early '70's that was Bubinga and it sounded very good too. My question is does this guitar have a nitrocellulose finish? It acts like it does but I read somewhere recently that Gibson had used a poly finish in the early 2000's. TIA Willie
duluthdan Posted July 11, 2016 Posted July 11, 2016 Your guitar was probably built at the gibson Acoustic factory in Bozeman, with a nitro finish, of that I am 99.9% certain. Nashville houses the electric and corporate side of Gibson.
j45nick Posted July 11, 2016 Posted July 11, 2016 Guitar daters cannot be relied upon in every detail. If it's an L-OO with a Bozeman label, it was built in Bozeman, and it has a nitrocellulose lacquer finish. Gibson Acoustic used a Fullerplast finish for a couple of years around 1990, but has otherwise been all-nitro to the best of my knowledge. From the description, the guitar should have serial number 02127054, or thereabouts.
vacamartin Posted July 11, 2016 Posted July 11, 2016 Willie...like its been stated, Bozeman, Nitro finish.....from the archives...(love that Bubinga :)) Features Gibson Logo Tapered Dovetail Neck Joint Radius Top Nitrocellulose Finish Body Binding
Willie King Posted July 12, 2016 Author Posted July 12, 2016 Thanks folks. Yes the S/N is 02127054. I put new strings on yesterday getting ready for a weekend full of gigs and man that guitar just sings. And it is was not expensive on CL.
