Buc McMaster Posted July 15, 2016 Posted July 15, 2016 Here's a tune that was inspired by a phrase my youngest brother wrote in an old blog he once held forth. Wrote a line or two in 2008 but set it aside and didn't finish it until 2012......sometimes they come quickly, other times it's a long process. The song of a miserable soul, bemoaning his situation and beseeching the Lord for a bailout. I'm not a religious man (in fact, I am an atheist) but it's not too difficult to wander off into non-secular thought......... I believe this to be the best lyric I've ever written, but that's just an opinion. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F7CAMpa4AyE
jdd707 Posted July 15, 2016 Posted July 15, 2016 I have to agree Buc, of those I've heard, one of your best. I'm really liking the sound of that new HB. Thanks for posting and keep 'em coming.
scriv58 Posted July 15, 2016 Posted July 15, 2016 great song great execution and dang that new guitar sounds great. What setup are you using for recording?
philfish Posted July 15, 2016 Posted July 15, 2016 Listened to this tune about an hour ago, and now it's stuck in my head, Guess I have to learn it. Nice writing and melody Buc glad you have that Bird, and the way you video your songs I can see the cords and runs
62burst Posted July 15, 2016 Posted July 15, 2016 Oh, you're going to hell for that one. Well done, and nice to hear a little Texas swing gettin' into your music, too . [Edit: meant to comment on When Horses Run- got distracted trying to find the song that had that same sound; some '70's mellow mafia group- 'had the line "That's the Way I Think (or feel?) About You". Yours (When Horses...) could definitely be shopped around.]
Buc McMaster Posted July 15, 2016 Author Posted July 15, 2016 Thank you, folks! The Hummingbird does sound pretty crisp on this, huh. I kind of like the muffled drum sound from the knuckle on my little finger rapping the top on downstrokes.....adds a little percussion. SRIV: Recorded this on a MacBook Pro, internal camera, with a Blue Yeti microphone on the stereo setting. No processing afterwards. Great little desktop mic! PHIL: Glad this one sticks.......that's a good sign! And do feel free to cover it if you like! BURST: Straight to hell! Yeah, yeah. I will be entering this one and When Horses Run in this years' ISC Songwriting Contest. Not sure whether to put them in the Folk/Americana or the Singer/Songwriter category. Could go either way, I think. Thanks for watching! I appreciate your interest!
j45nick Posted July 16, 2016 Posted July 16, 2016 yep, that's another favorite. "The stones of circumstance" is an interesting turn of phrase that could mean different things to different folks, but it speaks to just about everybody.
AnneS Posted July 16, 2016 Posted July 16, 2016 Very nice, Buc-I think you posted an earlier iteration of this, awhile back? The tune and lyrics are outstanding, and of course, your delivery is spot-on.
MissouriPicker Posted July 16, 2016 Posted July 16, 2016 Sweet and bouncy tune, Buc. Very nicely done also. Sounds/looks like you're once again in-love with a guitar. Sounds great. I enjoy your videos a lot.
Buc McMaster Posted July 18, 2016 Author Posted July 18, 2016 Yes there was version of this up........about four years back, me thinks.....much quicker tempo. There's also a two-chord-only version on YouTube on a tenor ukulele (restricted to two chords by weekly contest rules!) And yes, Nick, that phrase is open to interpretation, but it implies trouble of some kind, does it not? Thanks for watching!
j45nick Posted July 18, 2016 Posted July 18, 2016 And yes, Nick, that phrase is open to interpretation, but it implies trouble of some kind, does it not? It certainly does.
kidblast Posted July 18, 2016 Posted July 18, 2016 yes,,, hallelujah indeed! I also like "Take my hands, and show my feet another dance" Great stuff Buc... that bird is a canon..
