fretplay Posted July 16, 2016 Posted July 16, 2016 I like Buc Macmasters song about New Orleans. I do like songs about places, here's one about San Antone. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S8RaDQ3UwxQ
flatbaroque Posted July 16, 2016 Posted July 16, 2016 Mr Play that was lovely.Don't think I knew that song.I like it. Yea places in songs always add an element of interest.I was in Burma (Myanmar) and wanted to go to the city of Mandalay - Only because I'd remembered it from an old World War 2 song "The Road to Mandalay". It was better in the song than in reality.
62burst Posted July 17, 2016 Posted July 17, 2016 "Hello, Cleveland!" to borrow a line from Spinal Tap. Yes, always helps the audience's ears perk up when they hear their town mentioned. A songwriting friend has a tune that mentions many towns along a prominent river in the region; always a hit. Is San Antone one of your songs, FretPlay? Many of those listens on your YouTube today were mine- basically bouncing back n' forth from yours, and to The Kink's Celluloid Heroes, trying to put my finger on some similarity. . . the way the minor chords fall into other minors/minor 7ths(?), but more-so your vocal delivery reminding me of Ray Davies' in Celluloid Heroes, I'm thinking. Is that the thin-bodied LC-1 Cascade in your recording? Combined with maple and cutaway? 'Would love to hear this one with a standard depth instrument, like maybe a Hummingbird, and a nice condenser mic. Thanks for sharing.
MissouriPicker Posted July 17, 2016 Posted July 17, 2016 I like songs like this. They help create an atmosphere that fits the situation and location. Guitar and vocals work very well together also.
Avery Posted July 17, 2016 Posted July 17, 2016 Yes, i really enjoyed your song too. Well sung and played and a very nice song.

He and I both lived in North London but I never met him. The guitar is a full bodied LC1 Cascade maple back and sides, cedar top, it's really more suited to picking and as you say perhaps the song could be better either picked or with a different guitar. If you would like to do it I'll send you the music.
62burst Posted July 20, 2016 Posted July 20, 2016 If you would like to do it I'll send you the music. Well played, sir. A similar sentiment here as when BK777 offered up the suggestion last week for anyone having a take on Dylan's Knockin' On Heaven's Door; as much as I like covers that have a different take or rhythm, sometimes the original is best left as it is- or the simple structure of the song is just fine and doesn't seem to offer much room for exploration (translation= nothing's striking me at the moment). But please do send the lyrics to San Antone to my inbox; as one who once spent a bit of time in San Antonio [more like a shot & a beer town, than a glass of wine/cafe type-place to me ; ) ]- maybe something will present itself this weekend. Thx.
