NGD: J-45 Red Spruce & Flamed Mahogany Special!

Son of Light

Recommended Posts

Just thought I would share a couple of shots of my new J-45 LE. Really lightweight and amazing sounding guitar. Definitely tighter than the J-45 standard out of the box, but I have high hopes for the Adi Red Spruce. The low notes really punch in a 3-dimensional way. Perfect blues guitar for me!

Nice guitar. What does "LE" stand for ? That Adirondack top is going to get sweeter and sweeter with each passing day. [thumbup]

"Limited Edition." I don't really care about that though. I snagged this guitar on a great sale. I was deterred by the cost of the red spruce models, and then found this for the same price as a standard!

Is the only difference between a 50 and a 45 really just the top finish? Seems a silly reason to designate a separate model!

.........why does Gibson label it as a 45 when a natural top is a 50 !

It's Gibson's way to confuse issues like this.......part of the charm of a Gibson. Nice looking instrument, whatever they've labeled it. Much of the weight difference you feel is in the machine heads: 55-gallon drum Grover Rotomatics vs. open-back Waverly style.........big weight loss there.

So let's hear this thing..........play it!

Yep! Need to get some stuff set up but I'll do a nice demo. I assume we all prefer mic-ing it and not using the pickup?

Welcome to the J-50 club. In the beginning evidently Gibson considered them to be "better" than a J-45. Five bucks better. That adi top looks great. It'll probably take a bit longer to open up but should really have some punch when it does. Congrats.
