Martin 1940D28 Posted August 10, 2016 Posted August 10, 2016 Hi folks, I've been playing Hawaiian guitar for as long as the Spanish guitar. I gotta' admit I've enjoyed watching Roy Smeck and Tiny Tim playing uke for years. I believe Buc McMaster has been into the uke for a while. Well, anyhow, my Son told me a couple days ago that he had a Soprano uke coming as to make it easier to carry than his Les Paul on his trips. He left it with me on his way to work 7 am and told me to try it. I couldn't put it down and fooled and played with it for hours. He'll be home shortly, and it'll be gone. How can this happen to a three quarter century old fool, to want one for himself. Senility? Gotta' be. Nuttin' else. Thanks for listening. How could i mis spell it.
jdd707 Posted August 10, 2016 Posted August 10, 2016 Go on and get 'cha one. They are lots of fun and a change from the guitar. Doesn't take much relearning. I've got one of each size and the concert works well for me. It's somewhat easier to finger but small enough that that its easy to hold.

LOL......add me to the list. Just today I received a new soprano uke....first one I've ever bought. I've been influenced by a friend that uses one to do Jason Mraz and Eddy Vedder tunes in his sets. They are sooooo easy to play
sparquelito Posted August 11, 2016 Posted August 11, 2016 I do dearly love my Hawaiian ukulele, and I have been playing it for many years. If it was good enough for George Harrison, then it is good enough for me. :)

blindboygrunt Posted August 11, 2016 Posted August 11, 2016 Frank skinner 😄 all fun now , but next thing ya know you'll be looking at banjos Don't come running back here when it all goes south
MissouriPicker Posted August 11, 2016 Posted August 11, 2016 By all means, definitely get yourself a uke. They are addictive for sure. Got to love those one and two finger chords too and ukes are so very gentle on the fingers. I used to dislike the soprano because it felt so small for my fingers, but once I saw all those easy chords I loved it. And it's true---you can't keep from smiling when you're playing a uke. Also, got a little banjo-uke about a year ago that is really old and has those friction tuners. And don't be afraid of the banjo. You might lose all your friends, but you can punish those "fair weather friends" by playing it late at night. A few weeks back I bought one of those cardboard banjos from Backyard Banjos. Took it on vacation with us and it was a blast. It's a real banjo, just a lot more quiet. Very lightweight too.
Versatile Posted August 11, 2016 Posted August 11, 2016 There is a web forum dedicated to tenor guitars And the discussions often veer towards ukes of all sizes... V
Dave F Posted August 12, 2016 Posted August 12, 2016 Nothing but toys. Are you implying that my Arthur Godfrey Flamingo Ukulele with the built in pitch pipe and auto chorder is nothing more than a toy?
Versatile Posted August 12, 2016 Posted August 12, 2016 I do 'Hey Joe' on uke.... I just wanted you to know that.... V

2chord wonder Posted August 12, 2016 Posted August 12, 2016 I do all along the watchtower on mine. But I guess that's Dylan.
Fullmental Alpinist Posted August 13, 2016 Posted August 13, 2016 Nothing but toys. O my gosh[] Best just put the uke down now Martin 1940D28 and buy yourself a 2016 Hummingbird Vintage. If your anything like the McMaster, you'll sound good on both. An interesting use for the uke--and this is a true story--A local church is using uke therapy to cure men of Internet p*rn addiction. Apparently it works very well. Something about playing ukes releases endorphins or somesuch.

fortyearspickn Posted August 13, 2016 Posted August 13, 2016 Playing a ukulele with one hand will be a neat trick Thumbs Up !! Next - a one-handed clap !!
blindboygrunt Posted August 13, 2016 Posted August 13, 2016 Why stop at a ukulele when you could go loud? You'd be better off addicted to Internet porn ! 😄
