If you went back in time and killed them before they had done anything deserving of death you would truely be a murderer.

But you can't. So you're not. 😁

But seriously, what if you killed Hitler and/or Stalin and somebody worse came along? You know what occurred, but you can never know what might have occurred. Be careful what you wish for...Monkey's Paw.

I'd go back to the board room where the treaty of Versailles was written and influence them to write something more along the lines of the Marshall plan. Then maybe Hitler and Stalin wouldn't have turned into the monsters that they became? And also the millions of deaths that was WWII may not have happened. Don't know, impossible to say.

Hard to say. Can't really think of anything so I guess I'd like to go back as a great inventor in the western days. Invent the car, the plane, electricity and things like that way before there time.

Being a history buff concerning wars, here is some interesting facts many might not know:

The United States was not the dominant power, or "a" dominant power before winning WWII. The influence we have, and have had on the rest of the world is a direct result.

The US were "isolationist", and did not want to enter the war at all regardless of outcome. Had the attack on Pearl Harbor not happened, it's likely we would not have entered the war in either the Pacific or Europe.

Stalin came to power in Russia during WWI because he ENDED the war by surrendering to the Germans, by gaining support by those who didn't want to fight anymore. They even surrendered territory, which they did not honor once the Germans lost. The Socialist/Communist revolution that put him in power had the opposite effect of defeating the Russian Czar. (spelling?...lol)

WWII was the end of the British Empire, and all Empires for that matter (save Communism). Territories became sovereign nations. You know, "Democracy".

Israel would not exist, it would still be Palestine, or part of another territory/country.

China was won from Japan by the US, then went Communist allied by Stalin directly after we won the war.

If Hitler had not attacked Russia, he would likely have won the war.

If Hitler had not attacked Russia, they wouldn't have been the Soviet Union having half of Europe, either.

So...you see, while WWII sucked, and Hitler and Stalin suck, I'm not sure the world would have been a better place had they not done what they did and been defeated.

I'd refrain from parting with the guitars I miss, refrain from buying the ones that turned out not to be keepers, and use the money to repeat the same cycle. Oh, wait: this is a more high-minded thread, isn't it? Anything serious I can imagine might well produce negative results that I can't imagine.

Well, yea, we would ALL go back and get the guitars we lost.

But I am going to take this mindset a step further: I would go back and buy the guitars that went WAY too far up in value back when they were cheap

(and I still thought they were too much), and TEHN go and sell them off before the vintage market tanked.

As well as a lot of amps that were real cheap back then that I thought weren't worth having. But I wouldn't have sold those, I'd still have them.

Hey, I love that. Since we're going back in a time machine, we can take back our cash flow and 401-k with us and our guitars. Go to a time when a shot of whiskey cost the price of a bullet. (I read that's how they came up with a SHOT of whiskey) if the cowboy couldn't afford to buy it, he gave a bullet which cost the same price and the bartender could sell the bullet. We could all be filthy rich. Lol

Hmmmmmm.... depends on how far back we're talking—and whether it would be a "global" change, or a change in my personal life. So, I'll go with large-scale and historical:

I would go back to 2001, and thwart the 9/11 attacks. However, If I couldn't do that, I'd have kept the short-sighted Bush, Cheney & Co. from sending us into the disastrous war in Iraq. We'd be a much different country today—for the better!

I had absolutely no idea that the US was the sole combatant on the allied side during the war :)

I shalln't be mentioning that at the local RSL club.

Hello Stein.

If You don't mind...

Stalin came to power well after the end of WWI, in 1922. It was Leon Trotsky who declared the end of the war on behalf of the Soviet Union in Brest-Litovsk, without any authorization and against the will of many members of the Central Committee. However, Lenin did support it, as an agent payed by the Germans...

Best wishes...

If Hitler had not attacked Russia, he would likely have won the war.

If Hitler left the duty of leading the forces in hands of the generals, the Axis would have won the war. Even within such circumstances, it could have happened, if they could stand until early 1946. They already had nuclear bombs, but the aircrafts that could deliver them to long distances (4-jet Horten) were planned to be ready in February of 1946.

If Hitler had not attacked Russia, they wouldn't have been the Soviet Union having half of Europe, either.

...

That's not true. If Hitler did not attack the Soviet Union, the Soviets attacked them. Why did Hitler initiated the Barbarossa-plan? Because the Soviet troops lined up on the common border. It's the nature of communism: they want to spread that blessing all over the world.

I remember that movie, it was in 1956 that I saw it and I was just 10 years old. It frightened the crap out if me!

Well we've just come back from tea at the Ballina RSL and I can confirm it would have gone over like a lead balloon!

Besides their chocolate machine is rigged!

In terms of world history that reply seems a little disappointing and un Stein like. From you we expect brilliance!

I would go back to 22 November 1963 and visit Dallas to stop Oswald from pulling the trigger.

It seems like it wouldn't be all that difficult to confront him on the 6th floor of the Schoolbook Depository, and either overpower him or talk him out of it.

I disagree, but then again, if I went back and stopped Oswald, and the President was still shot & killed that day, we could finally put all the conspiracy theories to rest.

:)

Just to play with this conspiracy theory a bit: You could go back and stop the FED to go into private hands. That could have saved the president as well.
