I have never heard you sing in this register. The chords are gorgeous, and unobtainable for a dope like me.

Your pitch is perfect. I love this song. It reminds me of sitting in the barber chair, with my dad waiting in the wings. It seemed this was always playing.

Very difficult song.

Well done.

Bummer, dude. Embedded videos are showing up as a black vertical bar about 1/2" wide and I can't view them..............wtf? Anyone know the why of such weirdness?

Nicely done, FB!

I am going down the beach now, nicer than Ipanema and way quieter. I shall hum that all the way along the shore as I get towed by, I mean walk, the Hound. Maybe the original 'beautiful girl' version mixed with some NuSowfWellie version.... [thumbup]

Flatbaroque-your classy choice of material and guitar playing and vocal phrasing is duly noted. Enjoyed it. In case you're interested, here's a link to my instrumental version of Girl from Ipanema from a little while back (pre-Olympics.) Its played on my Gibson J-45 1964 CS Reissue with a chorus pedal. Again, good stuff by ya and keep stretching the boundaries.

Thanks Sal.We had the same barber in Sydney.Radio was always on 2CH - playing daggy hits from the 50's and 60's.Funny thing is the songs I hated then..I like now.Like this one.I've become an old barber!

Cheers Capmaster. Thanks for the photo. She's still a good sort. But I'm glad BK posted a photo of her as a brunette cause that's how I always imagined her.

BK what's NuSowWellie???..I always get your jokes but missed this one.

edit..haha.Got it.I should have understood this.Phonetic New South Wales.I learn't the couple of Portuguese verses by listening and writing down phonetically. The written Portuguese doesn't sound like you'd expect in English.

Thanks Jeff.Listened to your link. You have an interesting style with your single note melody playing. Can't say there would be too many threads with 2 versions of Girl From Ipanema played on 2 J-45's [smile].

Flatbaroque-thanks for noticing my single note melody style. It's one of the things I have worked on in my guitar playing for about 54 years now. Definitely something I have chosen to work on throughout the years...

Nice work, FB! This one seems a bit out of your normal fare but done well nonetheless.

(.......aren't all melodies single notes, one after the other?)

Really different kind of song for you, FB. I think you sound pretty good on it. When that song came out in the early 60's I hated it. It wasn't Rock & Roll, but once I saw the pic of the girl I started liking it. She's still a good-looking gal at age 73. Don't know if it's true, but I read that she never made a dollar from the song.

Thanks Buc, Kelly and Larry.Kind of you to listen and comment.Much appreciated.

Yea a little bit different from my usual. But occasionally I have a go at a more jazz oriented tune.

If anyone likes these kind of tunes don't be put off by the "jazz chords". I maybe know half a dozen well and a few more not so well. Most are moveable shapes. So with a lot of jazz tunes if you know a few of the standard shapes you are good to go.

Useful chords Maj7, Min7, 9th,minor9th, 13th,b5.Just a bit of practice.

Cool. Nice tone, and age of the strings a perfect match for the song. 'Liked how the leaves on the tree got to rustling a bit once you got going.

Webmaster: are all YouTube links now displaying the vertical bar?

**Edit: Lounge denizen "Rabs" had posted the same wtf re: the vertical bar in the Forum Feedback section. I went back and looked at other previously posted/embedded YouTubes and they, too, are displayed as the black vertical bar.

I thought it was just me. Mine does the same: black bar on the left, no video. It works fine on my iPad but not on the laptop. wtf?

Thanks 62B.Besides the trees I did notice a weird heavy breathing sound before the singing starts..I guess it must have been me or maybe the ghost of Antonio Jobim rolling in his grave.

Sal you old duffer...the Irish olympic commentator thread!

You are Vinnie Barbarino to BBG's Horshack [rolleyes]

I have the same black bar issue on my laptop.

A bit late on this one, was drink and cycling across southern czech republic from one pub to the next, great fun.

Enjoyed that, nice to see when you boys try out a few different genres and push yourself a bit.

I totally can see you doing this song on the Love Boat FB, late at night in the cocktail crooner bar with 50 something ladies humming away and looking over their shoulders for a dashing young man to sweep them off their feet and Camparis into the night ...
