2007 Dove

A question for all of you who are familiar with Dove's. There is one locally for sale - a standard (regular one with factory under saddle pickup) '07 used one in like new shape for $2250. I didn't play or see it yet. Is this a good price, or a bit too pricey? Didn't these go for $3300 retail back in '07? What should one go for, 50% off of this? I don't really see too many at $1650, but is that about right?

For what its worth, the guy said in add price is firm & no low ball offers.

I'd figure about half current new price. Doves aren't currently as trendy as Hummingbirds, which seem to be enjoying wild popularity of late, but they're excellent guitars. Maple produces a different tone and response compared to mahogany, so it depends pretty much on what you're looking for and/or what happens to appeal to you. Doves can also vary from bright to dark (to borrow from violin terminology) and that can be a preference factor as well. Play it and decide what it's worth to you.

Too high. I paid less than that four years ago when I bought my 2009 Dove "used" from GC. I'd be real surprised if he sells it for his asking price, although for one reason or another the price of "used" Doves seems to have spiked over the last year or so............ The Dove is pretty rare. In name recognition it takes a back seat to its sister, the Hummingbird, but is its equal otherwise. Maybe even its superior in volume. As guitars go, they are definitely different.

That is what I figured, thanks for the help. Way out of line, should be more like 15-1600. I have noticed the same deal with Hummingbirds also with asking prices well above what I sold mine for back in '10, which was 1500. Used H'Birds going for 2K & up - not for me at that level. Should have kept my '05 - kind of miss that one.

I think the internet and the big box stores have overly inflated used guitar prices, look at guitar center and the like and they sell them for around 80% of new pricing depending on the condition of the guitar. This has led individuals to believe that they too can ask that much in the market...consumers just need to stand firm on not paying so much for used gear
