BeastOfBourbon Posted August 16, 2016 Posted August 16, 2016 Hi all, New to the group, so any help is appreciated. I'll try to be as descriptive as possible... I'm an acoustic player mainly, and just bought a Epi Les Paul Standard PRO in an effort to be more versatile in my music. Now I need an amp to power behind it, and I was looking for some recommendations. I know the Marshall to LP is a classic combo, and apparently Vox is just as good... I'm a rhythm player strictly, (no lead at all) and I play mainly rock/pop rock (think Toad the Wet Sprocket, Gin Blossoms, Counting Crows, Goo Goo Dolls mixed with modern rock like The Script, OAR, The Frey). I like clean open chords for verse and the potential to get some distortion (not major overdrive) on the chorus when needed through power chords or bar chords. My budget is a kicker... I'm looking to spend under $150, and more than likely will be looking for used amps on Craigslist in an effort to get a better amp for a good price. I don't really have any stores near me that have a ton of amps that I can just spend the day plugging around and hearing different types. Here's a video of a demo that pretty much sold me on the guitar. This is exactly the type of sound that I'm looking for when I say "clean". starting at 1:41 through 2:48. Can anyone point me in the right direction?
BeastOfBourbon Posted August 16, 2016 Author Posted August 16, 2016 Apologies for the dupe post... please respond to the other thread... not sure how to delete this.
kidblast Posted August 16, 2016 Posted August 16, 2016 you can't unless you ask a mod to do it. no worries, we all fall on this sword now and then! :)
mirrorboy Posted August 17, 2016 Posted August 17, 2016 You could get a Fender Champion 40 for $180 or the Champion 20 for $100, depending on your needs. Both amps will get you that clean twang you seek, and a whole lot more.

mirrorboy Posted August 17, 2016 Posted August 17, 2016 Fender with an LP? If you want a clean sound like that demo in your link, you need scooped mids so that is generic Fender. Bear in mind, the amps I recommended also have the more overdriven tones you mentioned.
deeman Posted August 17, 2016 Posted August 17, 2016 Check out if you can find out any used silvertones. I love those amps.
Dennis G Posted August 17, 2016 Posted August 17, 2016 Fender with an LP? google that and you'll find that more people than you think use an LP with a Fender amp. Personally, I love my Blues Jr. regardless of which guitar I'm playing, including my LP. Fender makes some awesome amps, don't short change them.
kidblast Posted August 18, 2016 Posted August 18, 2016 google that and you'll find that more people than you think use an LP with a Fender amp. yep... add me to that list!
Rookery Posted August 20, 2016 Posted August 20, 2016 The LP demo was done by Lee Wrathe who usually uses a Blackstar HT5r on such demos.
G Mac Posted August 21, 2016 Posted August 21, 2016 Personally, I am a fan of Music Man amps. If you can find/afford one, you'll never look back. Some folks dislike the distortion sound that they get but, if that's the case, find a pedal that you like. The clean sound of these amps is legendary and they are powerful and louder than you will most likely ever need. The only drawback is that they're a bit pricey nowadays; usually in the $400-800 range depending on wattage and condition. Check on eBay; there's always a few up there. Good Luck and Play Well!
Bluesidae Posted August 30, 2016 Posted August 30, 2016 Epi + Silver face vibro champ is creamy smooth!

kidblast Posted August 30, 2016 Posted August 30, 2016 First put a set of good humbuckers , those chinese pickups are very bad . Have a look to Gibson, Seymour Duncan, etc ... the pro bucker pickups are fine. have you ever even tried them?
SG player Posted August 30, 2016 Posted August 30, 2016 I played Epi probuckers, they sound very flat .
Pinch Posted August 30, 2016 Posted August 30, 2016 Stop spamming the Epi forum with your incessant whining. Nobody wants to hear about how much you think Epiphones suck, time and time again.

I've got as many gibsons as I have epihpones, if they sucked as SG player likes to say they do... I wouldn't own 1... so +1.. as I've had enough of this crapola too

deeman Posted August 30, 2016 Posted August 30, 2016 You know what, I played some epiphones this morning and they were amazing, I think I'm going to put my gibsons up for sale. I'm proud of you SG player.
